The investigation that found big brand adverts appearing alongside ISIS propaganda is slowly morphing into a nightmare for Google, as more mammoth companies join the government in putting their digital spends with the search company on hold.
The latest business to stop transferring millions into its Google Adwords account is Marks and Spencer, which explained: "In order to ensure brand safety, we are pausing activity across Google platforms whilst the matter is worked through."
M has been joined by McDonald's UK in the Google protest too, with McDs' UK team saying it is also pausing ad spend with Google to "ensure brand safety" by making sure no ads for meat sandwiches appear alongside beheading videos.
Sky News says that Google execs apologised to the government after Friday's meeting to explain why ads for governmental services were appearing alongside extremist content, with Google apparently booked in for another meeting with the government's ad bosses this week.
Where it will talk about how it's going to apply all of its apparently wonderful AIs and algorithms to the seemingly easy job of not serving ads for dresses and milkshakes next to ISIS bomb tutorials.
