Deep House Cleaning Checklist

Life is all about moments.  Walking through your front door after a busy day at work, sitting down to dinner with your family, laying down to go to sleep each night, sipping on a cup of coffee at your kitchen table in the morning...

When you think of each of these moments we experience every day, the best and most meaningful ones tend to be in our homes.  Once you’ve taken the time to declutter your home, it’s time to take care of the things you felt were worth keeping.  There are a few rooms to prioritize when it comes to keeping your home as welcoming and comfortable as possible.

Kitchen

You likely feel that you do enough cleaning in your kitchen every day.  Between dishes after dinner, regular refrigerator upkeep and wiped surfaces, what more could there be to do?  For a deep clean, you’ll need to take a closer look at the spaces and appliances that maybe didn’t get enough attention in the past.

Start by removing everything from your refrigerator and freezer and wiping each shelf, drawer, handles, ice cube tray, etc.  If parts of your refrigerator are removable, take them to the sink and let them soak in warm soapy water while you work on the rest.

Some may have a self cleaning oven, but in case you don’t, you’ll want to wipe and scrub the inside of your oven.  Once that’s over, you may even want to consider lining the bottom with aluminum foil to ease the process in the future.

Bathroom

Your bathroom is where you go when you want to get clean - but it can also be one of the dirtiest places in your home if not scrubbed and wiped regularly.

One of the most difficult spots to get completely clean is your tub and/or shower.  Just because it gets a little soapy every day doesn’t mean it’s clean.  In order to have the cleanest shower possible, you’ll want to clean or replace your shower caddy, clean your shower head with a rag or old toothbrush and wipe the sides and ledges in your tub.

In terms of your sink area, be sure to remove everything from your counter, cabinets, drawers and medicine cabinet and wipe to remove dust, hair and potential mold buildup.  Because you’ve already gone through a decluttering process, this shouldn’t take too much time or effort.

You already know that the dirtiest space in your bathroom, and likely your entire home, will need some extra care.  First, squirt some cleaner into your toilet and use a toilet brush to get under the rim.  While you’re waiting for the toilet cleaner to do its job, take a rag and wipe the top, bottom and back of the toilet where dust and other germs tend to hide away.

Outdoors

Last but not least, you want to be sure that arriving home each day is a soothing feeling.  Pulling into your driveway every evening should be one of your favorite moments.

Though often forgotten, your gutters should be one of your first outdoor priorities and should receive some quality attention at least once a year.  Purchase a gutter scoop from your local hardware and get to work.

Keep your windows shiny and streak free by windexing the insides and outsides as often as needed.  You may find that if you have children or pets, marks on your windows will show up fairly regularly. It’s often easiest to hire a professional window cleaning service.
