We're up to episode 17 of the CGI animated series Star Wars Resistance, which takes place a day before The Force Awakens.Superstar Resistance pilot Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) manages to sneak onto the Colossus refueling platform to link up with undercover-spy-posing-as-a-mechanic Kazuda Xiono (aka Kaz, played by Christopher Sean).Kaz fills Poe in on his theory -- based on the intel he discovered -- that the totalitarian First Order is taking over the platform so the Resistance can't use it when they go to war.He points out a sector where their enemy has been engaged in some mysterious activity, and Poe decides they've got to check it out.Starkiller Base is a solar vampireAfter a wild escape from the First Order-occupied Colossus, Poe and Kaz jump to a sector of the Unknown Regions (where the First Order has been quietly amassing its forces for years).
Apex Legends‘ roster of characters and inventory of weapons may soon expand, as dataminers have discovered code on upcoming content for the new Battle Royale shooter on the block.Dataminers have discovered references in Apex Legends source code to what appear to be characters named Octane and Wattson, and weapons named Havoc Rifle and L-Star EMG.Octane is believed to have an ability named Stim Pack, which is likely similar to Titanfall 2‘s Stim that provides a temporary boost to the pilot in the form of additional speed, shortened reload times, and doubled health regeneration. It is unclear if Octane’s Stim Pack ability is a personal one or if it can also be used on teammates.Wattson, meanwhile, reportedly has an ability named Tesla Trap, which is likely an electric trap that will damage and/or ensnare enemies. The current Apex Legends roster only has Caustic utilizing traps, so Wattson’s ability may be a welcome addition to the game.
Mysteries abound on John Boyega’s Instagram, where, as Slash Film reports, he shared images of gifts he received to celebrate a momentous occasion: the wrapping of principal photography on Star Wars Episode IX.Kathleen Kennedy got him a pretty standard movie gift: a cool prop, giving him a pretty fancy blaster that looks a lot like the one Finn used in A Force Awakens.Daisy Ridley got him another movie prop.It appears to be, so far as we and Slash Film can figure, a vial from the Oscorp Industries labs as depicted in The Amazing Spider-Man, the iteration of Spidey movies before the current era, which starred Andrew Garfield as the webslinger. Is Boyega, like, a big fan of that iteration of Spider-Man?Did he, as Slash Film speculates, not get a part in the films he wanted?
Scientists are dreaming up ways to probe the nature of the Universe’s smallest bits – quarks – by observing ultra-dense neutron stars slamming into each other. But scientists think that neutron star collisions should also produce this kind of matter, and think that they might be able to spot it using gravitational wave detectors.“We want an independent way to see quark matter,” Veronica Dexheimer, assistant professor in physics at Kent State University, told Gizmodo. But at high-enough energies and pressures, matter goes through a phase transition into quark matter or quark-gluon plasma, in which the constituent parts of protons and neutrons – the quarks – are no longer confined to atoms and become the smallest component of the matter.Scientists announced the first recorded instance of two neutron stars slamming together in August 2017, an event witnessed via the ripples in spacetime, called gravitational waves, that they produced. Two new papers published this week in Physical Review Letters use computer simulations to predict two potential ways to observe quark matter produced during neutron star collisions, based on how it affects the gravitational wave signal.

Astronomers from the University of Vienna have identified a river of stars flowing across our galaxy and covering most of the southern sky.The 4000 estimated stars that comprise the stream were born together and have been moving together for the last one billion years, making the river a rarity as most star clusters are quickly dispersed once they form.Typically, when star clusters form they do not contain enough stars to create sufficient gravity to hold the cluster together, and gravitational forces quickly disperse the stars throughout the galaxy. But from observation of nearby space, astronomers have determined that there are a few clusters with enough mass to remain bound together for millions of years. The team from Vienna were able to identify such a cluster relatively nearby within the Milky Way, and map it using the European Space Agency satellite Gaia.“Identifying nearby disk streams is like looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack,” João Alves, one of the authors of the paper, said in a statement.
Star Trek: Discovery’s stars finally got a chance to talk more in depth about a big plot kept secret for a while. It was a Valentine’s Day to remember, and slightly puzzled at, on the latest episode of Discovery, 'Saints of Imperfection'.After our heroes braved their way through the mycelial network to bring back Tilly (Mary Wiseman), Stamets (Anthony Rapp) was also able to reunite with his previously dead husband, Dr. Culber (Wilson Cruz). But now that it’s finally come to fruition, Rapp and Cruz spoke to the Hollywood Reporter about what it’s like to finally have the pair back together.Rapp said he didn’t know how or when Culber would be coming back until he read the script for 'Saints of Imperfection', saying he “didn’t want to know” anything about Culber’s resurrection beforehand because Stamets wouldn’t have known either. But now that it’s happened, he and Cruz said they’re happy with the results.

Uncle Sam's prosecutors announced this week that a federal district court in the Lone Star state sent 42-year-old Eric McGinnis down for eight years for possessing an unregistered short barrel rifle and possessing ammunition while subject to an active protective order. His trial by jury took just two days.Back in 2015, McGinnis was served with the order after having a violent altercation with his girlfriend.Part of that order barred McGinnis from owning a firearm or ammunition for a period of two years. The next year, McGinnis attempted to purchase pieces for a semiautomatic rifle but was turned down following a background check and was visited by the bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms with a reminder of the order.Undeterred, McGinnis then purchased a 3D printer and obtained blueprints for the parts he was unable to legally purchase.
And, in this case, a love for Star Trek inspires some beguiling sketch work.Twitter user @SerinaTirek, inspired by her passion for Star Trek: Discovery in particular, has filled up her feed with incredible, detailed sketches from this era and past eras of Trek.Spoilerfree rough sketches for StarTrekDiscovery s2ep3 "Point of Light" - lots of women power , and thankfully a bit of Stamets (still my absolute fav of favs)’s put out some great paintings, too, in a similar style. An unexpected side-effect of the wonderful series StarTrekDiscovery is the amount of energy I suddenly felt putting into painting. It's a kind of therapy for me to sit here and paint what I dearly, dearly love .
Here's another milestone on the road toward Star Wars: Episode 9.Filming on the final movie in the saga has wrapped, director J.J. Abrams announced Friday."There is no adequate way to thank this truly magical crew and cast," Abrams tweeted, while sharing a photo of cast members hugging. The tweet only sparked fan interest in the eventual announcement of the film's title."Now we just need that title reveal along with a few trailers to get us all psyched for December," wrote Samuel James.Actor Anthony Daniels, who plays C-3PO, has been teasing hints about the title, and star Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker, has also joked about it.
In many ways Twitter is already a human artifact worthy of history books, but as a software product in 2019, it stinks. The company’s crowning achievements in the past decade include replacing a star icon with a heart, doubling the length of tweets, and solving harassment with blog posts.Twitter’s upside is world-shaking and poetic — and that’s why its delinquent stewardship is so frustrating. This week brought another bizarre interview with Jack Dorsey, and a fresh round of promises by the Twitter CEO to maybe someday do something useful with his company’s product. So we can at least understand why Twitter and every other company that makes money from hosting your content doesn’t spend too much time thinking about how to help you make less of it.Imagine if someone started a bank that only let customers withdraw money one dollar at a time.

The classic Marvel Star Wars comic was one of the earliest, tentative steps into what would ultimately transform into the original Star Wars expanded universe; a world that fleshed out Han, Luke, and Leia’s adventures between and beyond the original films. These days, its stories are left to legend, with a new canon taking their place. But not least for one issue.Celebrating 80 years of Marvel Comics, the publisher has confirmed that it is releasing Star Wars 108, a one-shot comic that will pick up where the original numbering of the classic Star Wars series left off before it came to an end.As revealed by, Star Wars 108 – written by Matthew Rosenberg, with art from Giuseppe Camuncoli, Luke Ross, Kerry Gammill, Andrea Broccardo, and more, and covers from Walter Simonson – will feature a host of characters that the original series added to Star Wars canon, including Amaiza Foxtrain, Valance the Hunter, Domina Tagge, and, yes, Jaxxon the bright green rabbit alien. The story itself is a continuation of “The Crimson Forever” by Archie Goodwin in Star Wars 50, released all the way back in 1981, which saw Luke, Leia, Chewie, and Lando deal with a mysterious virus that turned its victims a deadly shade of red.
