In my 2012 short A Day in the Life of a Fire Lookout, my goal was to capture the quiet feeling of what it’s like to be standing watch over a community, apart from the world but within sight of it.

Any in my latest documentary, “The Invisible Peak” I used time-lapse to bring to life the story of how the top of a mountain is affected by time and the natural elements over 100 years.

It’s a challenge to create a 20-minute short doc (incredibly lengthy in internet time!)

that maintains a high level of interest and dynamic visual excitement, but using time-lapse imagery the viewer feels the magic of what it’s like to be in this very special, but desecrated place.

Square Enix has always raised the bar when it comes to CGI films.

I remember Final Fantasy-The Spirits within and what they were trying to do with it.

Sadly, back then there were a lot of limitations involving workflow, software and hardware.

It is amazing how far 3d cg has come.

Hi,   A final showdown in a scrapyard pits Deadpool, Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (NTW) against Ajax, Angel Dust and a bunch of thugs.

The sequence made heavy use of practical sets and stunts, CG characters and effects and digital environments, including a dilapidated helicarrier that ends up tilting and destroying the area.

Perhaps even more impressive is that this sequence evidenced the high level of collaboration on the show.

Luma handled a fight between Deadpool and Ajax.

Digital Domain worked on Colossus (as discussed), NTW exploding scenes and parts of the deck of the helicarrier.

Rodeo also contributed matte painted backgrounds, Blur had Colossus damage shots and Weta Digital produced the Deadpool facial animation.

The video below shows ammunition being made from start to finish, starting with raw materials.

This is a fascinating video that is well worth watching.

It shows some amazing machines in operation.

At the S booth, we also saw an interesting CGI video that shows what happens inside a rifle chamber and barrel when a cartridge fires can’t be seen by the naked eye (unless you are a Super-Hero with X-Ray vision).

But now, with the help of 3D-style computer animation, you can see every stage in the process of a rifle round being fired.
