Deric Lostutter, as seen in July 2016.On Wednesday, a federal judge in Kentucky approved Deric Lostutter s motion to plead guilty to two of four counts in a hacking case that has been stretched out over four years. As a result, he could face years in prison. In July 2016, prosecutors formally accused Lostutter of hacking a Steubenville, Ohio high school football team website, as alleged retribution for shielding teenager rapists.Lostutter was indicted on four counts, including conspiracy and making a false statement to the FBI.Presumably, this means that counts two and three, which cite the notorious anti-hacking Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, will likely be dismissed as part of a plea deal.

You d assume that when the earth opens up to swallow a big chunk of a crowded city it would take months to fix the damage. But in the Japanese city of Fukuoka, it took repair crews just four days to fix a massive five-lane-wide sinkhole that suddenly appeared last week. The sinkhole maxed out at around 100 feet wide and 50 feet deep, and was caused by construction workers who were boring a tunnel for a new subway extension about 80 feet below the road s surface.Given the size of the sinkhole, and the interruption of traffic on the busy street, city officials decided to fill and repair the massive hole and temporarily stop work on the new subway line.It only took about four days before vehicles were allowed back on the street, and two more days to restore all of the utilities affected by the incident.

Facebook and Google announced Monday that they were taking steps to restrict ads from fake news outlets after facing criticism that hoax stories helped swing the presidential election in favor of Donald Trump.Facebook said Monday that it would ban fake news sites from using its Facebook Audience Network, which allows websites to generate revenue by including Facebook ads.Neither flash nor html5 is supported!Facebook s move doesn t address the fake news that appears in users news feeds, the focus of criticism of the social network, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday. These are both huge issues.During the election, Facebook hosted false news stories that included reports that actor Denzel Washington and Pope Francis had endorsed Trump.
The two laptops share many characteristics: a black-and-silver color palette, an anorexic frame, 12-inch screen size and a belief that C is the only worthy letter in the USB alphabet. The 1080p display of the Folio G1 we tested isn t as sharp as the MacBook s Retina display though a 4K Folio G1 is available , while the shallow-as-a-kiddie-pool MacBook keyboard isn t nearly as comfortable as the Folio G1 s.Additionally, the MacBook s near all-day charge actually meets Ultrabook criteria, while the Folio G1 needs to plug in to finish like the weekend warrior who takes a porta potty break every mile of the marathon.Lastly, at $999 similar configurations are sold in the UK for £996 and Australia for AU$2,440 the base Folio G1 is cheaper than the $1,299 £1,249, AU$1,999 MacBook. And the insides of the base Folio G1 are decent : 8GB of memory, a 1080p display and Core m5 processor.Teasing aside, the Folio G1 is a great looking device whose design accentuates the important bits: namely how thin and light it is.

Business intelligence company Sisense has launched its enterprise bots that interact with datasets and software, the company announced today.Sisense bots in public beta today operate on Slack, Skype, Facebook Messenger, and Telegram. In one-on-one or group chat, Sisense bots can tell you how sales are going at any given time of the day or serve up other data and insights on-demand.The bots are the third part of the Sisense Everywhere program. In July, Sisense debuted an Amazon Echo integration for employees to chat with BI data around the office, and an IoT lightbulb that changes colors based on the status of your key performance indicator KPI .Sisense Everywhere connects with and draws in data from servers and individual datasets, as well as from programs like Salesforce, Zendesk, and Google Analytics. This allows people to use natural language in order to ask for information from this bot and receive a combination of natural language responses, much like you would when you communicate with a friend, and widgets, images, and charts, that allow you to both consume the data visually but also drill and analyze the data, Sisense head of product Guy Levy-Yurista told VentureBeat in a phone interview. You will be able to connect with this bot and reach out to such a bot and ask a question and get a response the minute you need the data.I don t need to go into a deck board to drill or look for the right widget or right visualization in order to get the information I need, Levy-Yurista said.Sisense bots set alerts for KPI goals and can send push notifications with actionable information to messaging apps.
Google is working to change its policy to ban fake news websites from using its ad networkFollowing fake news stories flooding the internet during the recent US presidential elections, Google has decided to restrict such websites from using its advertising software. The company said it was working on a fool-proof policy to prevent these websites from garnering any revenue through its network by spreading false information.AdSense, Google's advertising network, allows advertisers to place text ads on millions of websites that are part of Google's network. The company says it has always prohibited the platform from being used by sites that promote hate speech or include pornography or violent content but its policies previously did not include restrictions on sites that spread false content.Although the move aims to curb revenue these sites generate from Google's ad network, it still does not address the issue of fake news or hoaxes appearing in Google search results.
Microsoft Visual Studio, or something like it, will soon be available for macOS, a shift that reflects the company's effort to be more open toward non-Windows technology.Microsoft published the announcement prematurely and then withdrew it.The news, captured by archive.org, is scheduled to coincide with Microsoft Connect ; – a developer event scheduled for November 16 and 17 in New York City.Visual Studio is Microsoft's integrated development environment IDE for creating Windows and web applications.Apple and Google both offer IDEs for their respective platforms, Xcode for iOS/macOS and Android Studio for Android. And the Eclipse Foundation maintains Eclipse, an IDE that's used for Java, Android, and PHP development, among other things.
As Nintendo proved with the NES Classic Edition, it s still the retro hardware that captures our attention. And as YouTuber Warner Skoch shows, it may still have some utility.Skoch, who goes by Sudomod, used a Zapper — the criminally underused gun from the original NES — to create a fully-functioning remote lighting system.A simple trigger pull aimed at an 8-bit duck target acts as a remote control to turn a lamp on or off.He even posted the plans online if you want to try this yourself.Fair warning, there s a fair bit of hacker stuff that gives people fits — soldering, wiring, and programming an Arduino.
