Two factor authentication is used by many online services today, but a US standards body is warning that the technology is not really secure and can easily be hijackedA major US standards body is starting to dissuade businesses from using two-factor authentication as a security measure to protect consumers as the method is insecure and can be exploited by cybercriminals. The US National Institute for Standards and Technology Nist publishes the Digital Authentication Guideline DAG , a set of guidelines designed to help software developers build secure apps, as well as enabling enterprises and government agencies to access and improve their cybersecurity practices when securing their software and services. In general, in order to unlock or access a banking service or an account that contains valuable information offline, the user in question needs to have their debit or credit card with them, or another form of official government identification, like a driver's license or passport.Today most things are done over the internet or on the phone, where there is no way for a business or the government to physically check your documents, and if you lose the bank card or your safety deposit box key, for example, then there is no way to access your account. So to solve this problem, two factor authentication was developed as an alternative method that would enable users to prove that they were in fact the named individual on an account or service, because people carry mobile phones everywhere and this is considered to be a personal device that you wouldn't share with someone else.

Among the nearly 20,000 emails published on Wikileaks following the massive hack of the Democratic National Committee is one that, quite ironically, mocks a BuzzFeed News report critical of the DNC and RNC's cybersecurity practices."The dumbest thing I've ever read," wrote Eric Walker, the DNC's deputy communications director, in the subject line of a May
Let s get this out of the way: Pokémon Go is meant for walking. So, if you must catch em all in a car, there are some things that can be done to mitigate the risk of crashing into police, being charged with vehicular manslaughter or just being bad at the game. Here are some rules to follow. It s one thing to walk around your apartment trying to catch a particularly jump-happy Pokémon.Or, if you have a manual transmission, don t even think about playing until you ve yanked the parking brake. You can tap on further away gyms and Pokéstops to see where they are before they re in range, and thus, you can figure out where you d like to go next without the app distracting you from the task of driving.
It still can't match equivalent wired headphones, but it sounds better than headsets in its price bracket and going wireless is great for gaming. You plug your console or PC into the HDMI input and the HDMI output passes the video signal to your TV or monitor.Once setup, you simply have to charge the headset using the supplied micro-USB cable, screw in the provided omni-directional boom mic, and then turn on the base station and headphones. The boom mic also has to be cable-connected to the Xbox One controller s 3.5mm jack to work, which is more faff than I'd like for a wireless headset. It's available in a black and orange colour combo, too, but that too looks a little over the top.The headset's frame is mainly made of smooth plastic, and carrying it to a LAN party, the headphones picked up plenty of dirty marks.
Twelve names were on it, and of those a stunning eight were Chinese.Far from the knock-off merchants they have so often been categorised as, companies such as Huawei, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo and more have been almost unstoppable in their ascendance. These manufacturers have tended to focus almost exclusively on China and other emerging markets, particularly India. That means the handsets can be a little tricky to get hold of.To begin with there can often be a lack of reviews for many handsets, especially those from lesser known companies such as Doogee, Elephone and Cubot.Set a budget for yourself, trawl the web and draw up a list of three or four phones that particularly appeal for example the Xiaomi Mi5, the Elephone P9000 and the Meizu Pro 6 .

Look, if we re being honest with ourselves we can admit that the past few Marvel movies have been… not great. They re all still wonderfully entertaining thanks to huge budgets and compelling characters, but I d wager that there aren t many people out there who would argue that Avengers, Iron Man and Captain America movies have been getting better as they progress. That noticeable decline is one of the reasons I m so excited for The Defenders, an upcoming new Netflix exclusive show that will combine the stories of four characters from the Marvel universe similar to what we ve seen in The Avengers. But the first teaser trailer Marvel just release didn t pique my interest — it just made me angry.DON T MISS: Someone built a black and gold iPhone 6 and it s everything you dreamed it would beI was so let down by recent Marvel movies like Iron Man 3 and Avengers: Age of Ultron that I didn t even bother to see Civil War, instead opting to wait for it to hit TV.
We have looked at the business models on a bunch of the streaming companies and found it very hard to see them as attractive, Mr. Maffei told investors at a March conference. In recent months, Mr. Maffei floated an offer to acquire internet-radio company Pandora Media Inc. P -2.83 % for roughly $15 a share, several dollars above where the shares traded at the time, said people familiar with the matter.Pandora s board rebuffed the advance because it believed the company s true value was closer to what it was in the fall, when the stock traded around $20, this person said.Asked during the meeting why a deal had yet to be sealed, he told attendees, You d have to ask the Pandora board. In an interview, Sirius XM Chief Executive Jim Meyer declined to comment on any takeover approach to Pandora, But he said that since his company represents a $5 billion part of the $25 billion radio business, he often kicks around whether he would like to have a bigger presence in the business.Sirius XM has built a profitable subscription business on strong partnerships with car makers.
There is "general resistance" among both the public and private sectors to plans that would shift responsibility for ensuring that third party contractors are paying the right employment taxes from the individual to public sector employers, HM Revenue and Customs HMRC has found.Employers surveyed by HMRC were concerned about the impact the proposed change would have on both employers and employees, particularly in relation to new administrative burdens and an anticipated loss in flexibility.Respondents were also "cynical" about the need to shift compliance burdens in the first place, and said that the "current economic climate" meant it was not a good time to introduce "another burden", according to a summary published by the tax authority.HMRC is currently consulting on whether to shift responsibility for compliance with the intermediaries legislation, known as IR35, from the individual contractor to a public body which contracts with them for their services or to the agency or other third party through which employment is arranged
Elon Musk s Tesla s Master Plan, Part Deux contains his strongest response yet to concerns around Autopilot, the subject of an ongoing National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation.Unsurprisingly, Musk is standing by the merits Autopilot and its impact on driver safety.According to the recently released 2015 NHTSA report, automotive fatalities increased by 8 percent to one death every 89 million miles.Autopilot miles will soon exceed twice that number and the system gets better every day, the Tesla CEO wrote in a section of his Part 2 plan labeled Autonomy .It would no more make sense to disable Tesla s Autopilot, as some have called for, than it would to disable autopilot in aircraft, after which our system is named. He then proceeded to explain why the term beta being attached to Autopilot is little more than a formality based on internal naming standards at this point.
Elon Musk s master plan: part two is here, and it s a doozy.Rather than set out a short-term vision, he s setting out a plan for how Tesla will save the world. In the plan, he s outlining how Tesla as we know it is going to change.Forget fast sports cars: the future Tesla will feature pickup trucks, semi trailers and urban buses, with those concepts to be unveiled next year.DON T MISS: The US government has taken down the owner and domains of the world s biggest pirate siteMusk s plan is centered around four main themes:
A 14-year-old Indian student has won Google's Community Impact Award for a GPS-powered app that aims at keeping local fishermen safe and enhancing their productivity. The award, which got him $10,000, focuses on projects that make a practical difference to communities by addressing challenges surrounding the environment, health and resources.A class 10 student in the southern city of Chennai, Advay Ramesh is among the 20 finalists shortlisted to compete for the $50,000 scholarship at the Google Science Fair 2016.Ramesh eventually hopes to develop his app into a hand-held device, which he calls the FishErmen Lifeline Terminal FELT .While it has been tested with Google Maps, it will eventually use the Standard Position System, an open navigation service provided by the country's Indian Space Research Organisation ISRO , for greater accuracy at sea.Ramesh was inspired to work on the project when he came across recurring news reports about the troubles faced by fishermen from the nearby city of Rameshwaram.
In the midst of the Republican National Convention, an out-of-the-ordinary Donald Trump campaign bus will roll into Cleveland.Rather than support the presidential candidate, this bus mocks him and his personal brand. It's decked out in slogans like 'Make Fruit Punch Great Again' and 'Hasta la vista, Donny' and acts as a moving art installation driven by its creators, performance art duo Mary Mihelic and David Gleeson.Mihelic and Gleeson, who refer to themselves as t.Rutt, have been traveling across the United States in the bus, which they purchased off of Craigslist in late September."This whole endeavor is about being in the middle of the confusion and extreme emotional environment that Trump keeps stoking, to his apparently continued advantage," Gleeson told Business Insider. Here's the inside story of how Mihelic and Gleeson purchased the bus and a look into their cross-country adventures.
The update is rolling out gradually to all Apple Music subscribers AppleApple Music subscribers have long complained about iTunes not properly matching songs in their music libraries.Apple now appears to be fixing this problem, with reports that the company is rolling out iTunes Match audio fingerprint for more accurate song matches.Apple has been lambasted in the past for in replacing songs in users' music libraries with ill-matched replacements. This would most commonly occur when a live version of a song was replaced with a studio-recorded version and, in some instances Apple has been accused of replacing a rare or otherwise unique track with a more commonly available one before deleting the original from the user's library.Loop reports that iTunes Match with audio fingerprint uses a more accurate method for matching tracks than the tag-based version of Apple's song-matching tool, meaning – theoretically at least – users' tracks will always make it safely from iTunes to Apple Music.
