Torrance Tax Preparer authorities warn about health insurance scams

the Internal Revenue Service ( IRS ) warned taxpayers today to be alert to possible scams committed by tax preparers "without scruples", after receiving numerous complaints about payments related to the Healthcare Law or Obamacare.

According to the IRS, some tax preparers would be asking taxpayers to make tax payments related to medical coverage on behalf of the professional and not the IRS.

While most people do not owe any such payment because they have health insurance coverage or qualify for an exemption, those who must make a payment must do so only along with their tax return or in response to a letter from the IRS he warned.

"This fraud of unscrupulous tax preparers is worrisome, they are already abusing taxpayers with limited knowledge of the English language, especially those who speak Spanish," Irma Trevino, an IRS spokeswoman, told Efe.

Tax authorities noted that in some cases, tax preparers have requested payment, even though the taxpayer had Medicad or other medical coverage and would not need to make any Individual Shared Responsibility payments.

Other complaints include cases in which the preparer has promised to reduce the amount of the payment if the taxpayer pays the amount directly to him or demand money from people who are exempt from the Individual Shared Responsibility payment.

Treviño indicated that those who do not have citizenship or legal residence in the United States are not required to pay the Individual Shared Responsibility of the Health Care Law for not having health insurance.

The authorities urge taxpayers to report to the IRS tax preparers involved in this type of scams through the form 14157.

In addition, they recommend that taxpayers use the Interactive Tax Assistant tool in case they are not sure they must make the Individual Shared Responsibility payment for not having medical coverage or determining if they qualify for an exemption.(Best Affordable Torrance Tax Preparer)
