It was just few years back, when most of the fertility clinics and doctors’ got to use fresh donor eggs in to IVF treatments to be successful. Well that meant that the physician has to synchronize a donor's menstrual cycle with that of the recipient's. This then required their travel schedules to go alongside and if the pregnancy doesn’t occur, the whole process needs to be carried over all again. It’s all since then, processes like oocyte cryopreservation process, the process of taking a mature egg and freezing it for future use, has been majorly improved and various research programs have shown that both frozen and fresh eggs are equally feasible.

Fresh Donor Eggs against Frozen Donor Eggs

Till the year 2005, the oocyte cryopreservation process was still going through the initial experimental stages and the first healthy baby was born out of this process in the year 1986. Still the medical science has been struggling big time to perfect the process within the next two decades. Still with the recent developments in the medical technology, the cryopreservation process has been expertly perfected in most of the aspects. This is where the success rates of both frozen donor eggs and fresh donor eggs have been brought onto the same level.

This can certainly be termed as good news for all the couples looking for an In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) treatment as the cost included in cycles using frozen donor eggs is more than half in IVF cycles using fresh donor eggs. As the fertilized eggs doesn’t always ensure a successful live birth, the couples who are using  frozen eggs got the option of going with  2 or 3 IVF cycles using frozen eggs at the same price of one cycle with fresh eggs. This is simply possible as the frozen embryo can be preserved for later use.

Factors impacting the success rate of pregnancies out of Frozen egg donation

Even though the success rate of pregnancies is almost same in both the case of frozen eggs and fresh eggs, the age factor lays a bigger impact into the whole aspect. Its been observed by the doctors that more the age, lesser the chances of a mother to get pregnant, be it from frozen eggs or fresh eggs. This largely happens due to the degrading quality and quantity of the eggs in the female body with increasing age and comes out as one of the biggest factors which impact the overall pregnancy process

Apart from the age factor, there are multiple factors which impact the overall pregnancy chances of a person. Same includes the quality and health of the donor eggs, the health and age of the recipient, along with the technology and facilities brought in use by the given fertility clinic around. Still if there’s one thing which is quite certain, that’s the increased chances of pregnancy occurrence with the improved and advanced medical technology. Thus, the current success rate of pregnancy via frozen eggs must give some big hope to all those struggling couples, who are earlier been unable to achieve pregnancy via natural ways.
