Chinese video-streaming app iQiyi is planning to further push its expansion efforts into North America and Japan after it hit 100 million paying subscribers this month, Reuters reported, citing a senior executive of the company.

Often dubbed as China’s answer to Netflix, iQiyi currently has a licensing deal with the US media services provider.

But the Chinese platform’s global drive may see the two companies go head-to-head.

“Given more time, I think we can have a lot of opportunities in other markets globally,” said Yang Xianghua, iQiyi’s president of membership and overseas business.
