Many people have come across Waiting for Cache error on their Chrome. In this error, the Chrome browser will automatically freeze and stall. But, there is no message shown on the screen. At the bottom of their browser, a process of “Waiting for cache” goes on.

Why Am I Getting ‘Waiting for Cache’ Error?

Many of the user-reports show that two significant factors are causing your Chrome to show this message;

  • Your SSD Write cache is getting full too early: Your solid-state drive may be full with the cache. To fix this, learn how to disable SSD write cache, which can solve this issue.
  • The browser profile is corrupted: Many Chrome users have found that the corrupted profile can also cause this issue, and many have solved it by creating a new Chrome profile or by resetting the settings.

How to Disable Write Cache on Your SSD?

By disabling the write cache on the solid-state drive, many have solved this issue, and it is the most common cure to this problem. To disable the write cache, follow the tutorial below:

  1. Hit Start key and R key on your keyboard together. After that enter “devmgmt.msc” and hit the Enter button on your keyboard.
  2. Now you can see that Device Manager has opened. Navigate to the ‘Disk Drives’ option.
  3. After expending the Disk drives, right-click on the SSD drive and select Properties.
  4. If you are using multiple SSDs, then you will have to choose the one, in which you have installed Chrome browser.
  5. Navigate to the ‘Policies’ that is located at the top menu.
  6. Uncheck the “Enable write caching on the device” box.

Creating a New User Browser Profile

Let’s solve this issue by creating a new Chrome profile. Yes, it will work if the first method failed.  This fix is pretty straightforward and takes even less time than the previous one. But, yes, you will lose your settings and personalization such as bookmarks.

  1. Select the profile icon on your chrome browser, located at the top-right corner.
  2. Now tap ‘Manage people’ option from the list.
  3. Hit the “Add Person” button.
  4. Type the name and choose a profile image for your new profile.
  5. Hit the Add button to create your profile.
  6. Now you can see that Google is restarting its Chrome browser and logging in to the new profile that you have just created. Now you are logged in with a new profile.

Check if the error has gone. If it is gone, then congrats. If not, then try resetting Chrome settings to the default ones.
