7 Common Computer Viruses and How to Remove Them

If you operate a PC either occasionally or regularly, then it is more than likely that you have encountered some kind of virus or malware already. In fact, more than 10 billion malware encounters were recorded back in 2018.

There are security software, anti-malware, and antiviruses available on the market, but the truth is that we still encounter malware on our system. While some of them are easy to remove, some are not. Here we provide ways on how to counter and remove seven common malware from your PC.

Adware

The term stands for advertising-related software. This software fills up your system with unwanted popups and ads. It poses a risk of your personal information getting stolen and likely getting sold off to third parties.

Backdoor

It is a method of bypassing standard authentication to gain control over a system. This is used by hackers to acquire control over a network or computer.

Baldr

Similar to banking Trojan, it is a stealer but with a minor change. It will enter one system, gather data, and leave it right away. It searches and gathers information, such as browsing history, cookies, and passwords.

Clipper

This malware intercepts contents from the victim’s clipboard. It takes advantage of us being busy with long strings to deal with, such as cryptocurrency addresses and passwords.

DNS changes

A type of trojan that interchange DNS settings and redirects victim’s web data without them knowing.

Fileless malware

A type of trojan that opens in the system by compromising the builtin options. It is not located in the victim’s system. It is hard to be picked by antiviruses since it does not leave any signature.

Kraken

This botnet appeared in April 2018 and was very significant in the world at the moment. Keeping away from antiviruses, the Kraken sent more than 9 billion spam texts every day.

How to spot malware and viruses?

You will not have to deal with malicious software if you stop them from entering in the first place. There are many ways to do it; some of them are:

  1. Install a scanner

It could be Kaspersky, Mcafee, or Norton. Just install a reputable antivirus on your system and let it do the work. Scan occasionally and do it the instant you think your system is becoming sluggish.

  • Running a scanning device

If you are unable to download any scanning tool, then just transfer it from a safe USB to your system. Open the tool and run a scan on your system.

  • Remove the Trojans

If your tool picks any malware, then instantly remove the infection and its file source. Restart the system after the action is done, and you are good to go.

You can also choose to be safe from the start by following some steps.

  • Keep the system updated
  • Use a reputable anti-malware
  • Do not visit unsafe websites.
  • Do not open suspicious emails
  • Stay safe and keep your system clean.
