A student’s social life is equally important as his/ her academic life for their development. There is a lot of pressure on students these days to perform well in exams and attain good grades. To ease this pressure, children must engage in other activities to relax and enjoy themselves and cut down on the stress. These should be the activities outside the classrooms. It can include sports, singing, any cultural events, creative arts etc.

Schools should provide activity classes for children that could benefit them in the future. These activities help students to learn about themselves and develop and use their skills and knowledge in different contexts. Parents should also encourage their kids to engage in extracurricular activities and for that they can also arrange evening classes for children at home. Participation in co-curricular activities benefits students in many ways.

Benefits of co-curricular activities for students:

• Engaging in activities that you are passionate about can increase your brain functioning, help you concentrate and manage your time better. All these help in improved academic performance.

• Getting involved in activities outside of school can help the students meet new people with whom they share interests and improve their social skills. Extracurricular activities also help students to expand their social network.

• Children with regular hobbies are likely to spend less time glued to a smartphone or television. Not only extra-curricular activities encourage the child to remain active, but also prompt them to spend more time practicing and pursuing their passion.

• Experiencing success or being recognized for a contribution to a co-curricular activity can greatly improve students’ self-esteem. This can also have a positive impact on performance in the classroom.

• Children who participate in these activities develop a sense of commitment. This is because as they take part in the activity of their choice, they have to commit to it and give their all.

• These activities also help the students learn new skills that are useful in their day to day life. Children develop better leadership skills, a sense of responsibility and learn how to relate better with others.

Extra-curricular activities allow students to pursue interests outside of a standardized academic context. The aim of these activity classes for children should be to enhance their skills, motivate them and provide them with better opportunities to explore their interests. Parents can also enrol their kids in evening classes for children where they can follow their passion more religiously. Extra-curricular activities not only help students to be skilfully equipped for life but help them become more social and responsible. Therefore, it is a great idea to get students involved in extracurricular activities and parents should also start to give their kids a little push to get them more involved.
