How to Fix ‘VSS Service is Shutting Down Due to Idle Timeout’

Some of the users are raising concerns once they have discovered the Volume Shadow Copy Service is not working properly. After going through the issue with the Event Viewer, some of the users have reported that they are facing the ‘VSS Service is shutting down due to idle timeout’ error. How to fix ‘VSS service is shutting down due to idle timeout.’

· Change the VSS service to Automatic

1.   Click on the Windows and R keys together.

2.  It will launch the Run prompt box.

3.  Enter ‘services.mcs’ in the search bar.

4.  Click on the Enter option.

5.  After going in the Service display, go down to the menu list of all the Services.

6.  After that, find the Volume Shadow Copy option.

7.  After getting it, you need to right-click on it.

8.  Choose the Properties option by going to the prompt box.

9.  Choose the General option.

10. It is located in the Properties display.

11. Start changing the Startup type option to Automatic option.

12. After that, press on the Apply option for saving the changes you have made.

13. Start the system once again.

14. Check-in case you have fixed this issue or not.

· Repair System File Corruption

1.   Click on the Windows and R keys together.

2.  It will launch the Run prompt box.

3.  After that, enter “cmd” in the search bar.

4.  Click on the Control, Shift, and Enter keys.

5.  It will launch the Command Prompt menu.

6.  After opening the User Account Control, press on the Yes option.

7.  After going in the Command prompt, enter the below-mentioned commands:

a.  Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

b.  Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

8.  Click on the Enter option.

9.  After completing the scanning procedure, start the system.

10. Check-in case you have fixed this problem by going through the Event Viewer for a new VSS error.

11. In case you are still facing the prompt menu on the screen, go to any other method.

12. It will launch the Command Prompt.

13. After that, enter the below-mentioned command:

a.  sfc /scannow

14. After completing the scanning process, start the system again.

15. Check if you have fixed this issue or not.

· Use the system restore point

1.   Click on the Windows and R keys together.

2.  It will launch the Run prompt box.

3.  After that, enter “rstrui” in the search bar.

4.  Click on the Enter option.

5.  It will launch the System Restore window.

6.  By going to the System Restore window, press on the Next option.

7.  To begin this procedure, press on the Finish option.

8.  Once you have completed this procedure, you need to restart the system.

9.  Once you have booted the system, go to the Event Viewer menu.

10. Check whether you are getting the VSS error text.
