How to help slow employees work faster?

There are multiple reasons as to why an employee works slowly. As a manager, you already know no matter how good the work of an employee is, if he fails to deliver the tasks assigned timely, he cannot be claimed as one of the best employees. But, is it okay to start or continue poking them every minute about it? Certainly not.

So, in this blog, we attempt to tell you the ways to make slow employees work faster. Don’t worry! This won’t ruin the quality of work but may end up improving it for the better. Let us begin.

Know the reason

It is prudent to determine the underlying reason. There are different things that may be impacting the time he takes. It can be that he wants to make everything perfect, is give more time and attention to not so important tasks or he is way too detail-oriented. When you will know the reason, you would be able to come up with a solution.

Team up

You can surely track the work progress using HR management software but would not be able to help the employee much when it would come down to increase the pace at which he works. Don’t simply tell them they are working at a slow pace, help them increase their speed. Ask them as to what can be done to make the situation better? Are they feeling overwhelmed? Try to give them fewer tasks for the day.

Mark priorities and set deadlines

You know the work that you are assigning to them in the HR management software. So, you should try to make a to-do list, help them prioritise the tasks. Tell them what matters and what doesn’t. Allot them time for each task.

Limit distractions

Employees should not be disturbed a lot when they are working. If there is a disturbance in or around their workstation, they will not be able to work fastly and dedicatedly. You should work on managing your problem employees so that such employees can work at a faster pace.

Learn what your employees like

For every employee, there must be some tasks that the employee enjoys doing and some that he doesn’t. So, try to give employees more of what they enjoy doing and the tasks that resonate with their strengths.

Share your feedback

Till the time you would not give your feedback, i.e appreciate the improvement and pinpoint when the work is not done timely, you will help them in attaining the pace at which they should work so that they are able to complete their goals. If needed, you should also organise one-to-one meetings to give constructive criticism or appreciate the change in their works.

Apart from this, there is one added benefit that can help the employees in addressing the problems that slow employees go through. Your workforce will start understanding that you don’t expect perfection but deadlines to be respected. They will also understand that you understand their true importance and that is why you are working on polishing them even more.
