Some people are able to recover from the loss while some people tend to succumb to the misery for a longer period of time. Some symptoms which are related to grief are crying, sadness, lack of energy and being withdrawn.

Dr. Kubler-Ross speaks about death cycle stages which include denial, anger, depressed mood, bargaining and acceptance. Though this is about the dying patient, many say it also applies to family members of someone who has passed. Some people will continue to keep the clothing of a loved one in their home for years before they are ready to give it to charity.

It's important to be patient and allow adequate amount of time in order to recover from the death. In addition to analytical and cognitive-behavioral therapy, some therapist will incorporate meditation and alternatives modes of healing to assist the client. A support group can be very helpful for sharing one's feelings with others. Often a young person feels very alienated because they know no one else going through the same situation. There are various certificate programs for grief counselors. But often someone will see a psychologist, social worker or mental health counselor as they have training in this area as well.
