Robert Half’s most recent salary report states that 34% of Australian CIOs say software development is the functional area within IT and technology, and that it will develop the most careers over the next five years. In addition, 43% of them say it is the most challenging area to source IT experts for. 

Also, according to the report, the most competitive salary increases are in Melbourne with an average annual raise of 4.2%, followed by Brisbane at 3.3%, Sydney at 2.1% and Perth at 1.1%. With this in mind, let’s have a look at some of the best IT jobs in the Land Down Under.

 

Data Scientist

As STEM education in Australia really begins to take off, it’s no surprise that in this year data science – commonly known as the ‘sexiest career of the 21st Century’ – is pushing six figures; around $99,510 to be precise. Responsible for mining through huge amounts of data and transforming it into actionable and valuable information, entities in every industry are on the lookout for competent and qualified number crunchers.

To become a data scientist, you will need a strong understanding of programming languages – especially Python – as well as an academic background in a STEM field such as computer science or mathematics.
