Premier League: Frank Lampard Responds to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Comment

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has hit back at Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's comments over the comparison of his youngsters' development and the Blues', suggesting that good loans have allowed Mason Mount and co to thrive this season. Prior to the match, Solskjaer said: "It Chelsea is a very exciting team. Frank has got players that have been on loan for one or two seasons. The difference between my youngsters is that they are almost stepping right now onto the scene."

From that time both sides have had distinct fortunes, with Chelsea on a seven-game repeated winning streak while United have often struggled for form, while they have won their last two away games. Chelsea's wins have come from their young players, with the likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori appearing to easily make the step up from Championship to Premier League football.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard disagrees with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's claim that his young players have developed quicker than Manchester United's due to successful loan moves to the Championship. The two teams take each other on for the second time this season on Wednesday night, with United running out 4-0 winners in the Premier League in August.

Lampard responded by saying: "I don't know, you go case-by-case. Rashford's a young player; he's got how many caps for his country? Tuanzebe went on loan last year and did fantastically. Dan James has come in and been a fantastic signing for them.

"I think we've all got players with relative experience or not. I think Man United have got loads of good players. In terms of the loan system, there probably is some credit. The loans need to be the right loans, need to be the right clubs. I was fortunate to have Mason and Fikayo last year, they were good for me and hopefully, I was good for them. "That's how the loan system works at its best when you're talking about players with really good potential."

"Now people can look at it as we’ve improved since those early stages, and I’m sure we have, but sometimes I believe that fine lines do change games. They also change perceptions, and the perception of us in this early part of the season is that we’re conceding too many goals, which I agree with," Lampard said in response to his managerial counterpart.  "But when you scratch beneath the surface, you see that in terms of chances conceded, and shots conceded on our goal, we’re in the top one, two or three, I think behind Liverpool and Maybe City.
