Statins in lowering bad cholesterol

Statins are a group of drugs that lower blood LDL cholesterol levels by affecting the metabolism of fats.

They are used for more than 30 years and generally are considered to be quite safe.

Contraindication to its use is liver failure and kidney disease, which can severely damage - so prior to treatment need to be examined.

During therapy every six months should also examine the blood on liver tests and GFR (kidney filtration rate).
