With regard to the violent protest over CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) in Delhi, lot has been argued about ‘suffering of students’, ‘human rights’ of students etc., A section of opinion-makers and so called celebrities have been arguing as if the rioters needed to be given a free pass to damage lives and public property and the police should refrain from maintaining law and order.
In such a background, it is pertinent to ask whether the human rights issue doesn’t apply to police?

When a place is captured by the anti-social elements such as rioters and stone-pelters, it is natural that the Police rush in to maintain the law and order.
But some people who are backing the Jamia protests frivolously argue that the police can’t enter the campus.
When someone like Javed Akhtar made such arguments on social media, an IPS officer challenged him to show the relevant law to this effect.
