An aerial work platform (AWP), also known as an aerial device, elevating work platform (EWP), or mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) is a mechanical device used to provide temporary access for people or equipment to inaccessible areas, usually at height. Its major application is to maintain and fix the faults and flaws in complicated structures at different heights.

Aerial work platforms, armed with load sense system (LSS), checks the weight of the platform before it leaves the ground and after placing stuffs on it during operation. If the weight exceeds the loading capacity in either of the cases, the LSS disengages the working of the aerial work platform. Some AWPs incorporate a load sense recovery feature which enables the workers to land safely through restricted operation, allowing them to unload the material from the bucket until both the alarms go off before resuming the work.
