A modern bike with gadgets ?

The 21st century is to a large extent the development of information and communication technologies that leave computers and start appearing in our fridges, TV sets and all kinds of technical gadgets that make our lives more pleasant. Modern everyday life is more and more accessories - including those designed to make cycling more attractive.

The future begins today

Electric bicycles may not be very popular, but this is one example of the slow emergence of electronics in bicycle equipment. There are more and more useful (GPS locator) or totally impractical (LEDs animating color images on the rims while riding) gadgets and with time they become more sophisticated and more comfortable to use. Among the interesting technical novelties are the position lights and turn signals mounted in the steering wheel. The idea of making a bicycle similar to other vehicles on the road, although it may seem like a development at first glance, does bring with it a few problems: it does not comply with the regulations, moreover, it disturbs than helps drivers.

Poles do not goose and have their innovations too. This can be seen in the BikeMic - a microphone placed between the headphones and the player, thanks to which we can listen to music, but still hear the natural sounds of the environment. The idea seems a bit forced to me, but maybe it will find its recipients.

The most interesting ones are just before us

The technical innovations mentioned above are mostly only instruments used to facilitate certain activities while driving. They are either cheap or convenient, but they do not redefine cycling itself. An example of more "cosmic" equipment is Varia Vision - a display mounted on glasses. It shows various parameters such as speed, pulse, navigation messages, distance, and news about approaching vehicles. Such a device already influences our perception and changes the perception of the environment. Using comfortable electronics looking for us can also teach us to think: why keep an eye on the area when the sensors automatically detect the presence of cars?

Electronics can kill the habit of being independent, which can be tragic in case of failure or unexpected situations. The trend of automating all processes slowly leads to the fact that soon the on-board computers will almost drive cars for us. I wouldn't want a similar process to be applied to cycling. For now it still sounds cosmic, but who knows what will happen in 5,10,20 years time?
