What Is The Difference Between Type 1 and Type 2?

There is some confusion aboutMarine D3 Reviewdiabetes, in fact quite a lot of confusion. Despite what some people believe, there are two basic types which are creatively known as Type 1 and Type 2 respectively. These two classes of diabetes have differing causes, and also different treatments associated with them. Following the perfect treatment program for one of these types if you have the other could result in premature death or, at the very least, serious personal harm. It isn't as if telling which type of diabetes you have is even that difficult... it's a simple blood test for a type of chemical known as a C-Peptide, which is distinctly different for the two types.

Test For Insulin Levels: For the record, the C-Peptide levels of a Type 1 diabetic are very low, whereas C-Peptide levels in Type 2 are of normal to elevated levels. C-Peptide levels are used to determine the levels of insulin in a more reliable way than just measuring the insulin itself. However, this is a topic for another article altogether. Let's get back into examining the functional differences between the types of diabetics.

Type 1 Diabetes: In a Type 1 diabetic, the pancreas has ceased to produce insulin because cells in it, called beta cells, have been destroyed by what's called an autoimmune response. Simply put, for a person with Type 1, their own body rebels against their pancreas, destroying something that is desperately needed. Without insulin, your cells can no longer absorb the sugar in your blood stream, which essentially starves them. If you don't have insulin, your cells will stop functioning sooner rather than of old age, and you will not live long. As diabetics in this category fail to produce insulin, or sufficient insulin, they need to inject insulin. While there are doubtless some triggers to the onset of Type 1 diabetes which will eventually be understood, genetic factors are still required. Otherwise these diabetics are quite healthy.
