Dua For Coronavirus: Safety Measures For Coronavirus In Islam

Coronavirus is a respiratory disease known as COVID-19. It originated in China in December 2019, and ever since, its dread and the virus itself have spread far and wide. Eight out of ten cases are found to be mild, while more critical ones can lead to lung damage.

What are its symptoms?

fever, cough, and shortness of breath are some of its leading symptoms.

How does it spread?

The virus mostly spreads through close contact. An infected patient coughs or sneezes, and within a range of six feet, someone breathes in the infected droplets. It can also spread hand-to-hand from the surfaces of objects. Anyone who holds an object that has the virus on it and then touches his mouth, nose, or eyes can easily contract the virus. How long the virus can remain on surfaces is still under study.

Total death rate from coronavirus

A study shows that of every thousand infected cases, 14 will result in death. The mortality rate is, therefore, 1.4% of every 1,000 patients. The elderly with other ailments are most susceptible to the virus.

Preventive safety measures

  • Get the flu vaccine: The flu can mimic Coronavirus and give the impression that one has the COVID-19 virus.
  • Typical motherly advice: Wash your hands, including the tips of your fingers, for 20 seconds and keep your hands away from your face. Cough into the crook of your arm, not into your hand or worst of all, into the air.
  • Stay at home if unwell: You’re not doing anyone a favor by coming to school or work and making everyone else sick.
  • Keep yourself updated:  It’s especially helpful for information and advice about travel.

How effective are the surgical masks so many people are wearing?

They may give partial protection from coronavirus by catching droplets containing the virus, but the virus is so minute, it can penetrate the mask, or go around it. If one is sick, a mask might help protect others, but it is not recommended for routine use.

Duas (supplications) and Dhikr for protection

The following protective Duas and Dhikr is derived from sound and authentic Prophetic Ahadith.

#1. Anas (R.A) said that the Prophet (PBUH) used to recite:

“Allahumma inni a ‘oodhu bika min al-barasi wa’l-junooni wa’l-judhaami wa min sayyi’ il-asqaam (O Allah, I seek refuge with you from leprosy, and from insanity, and from paralysis, and evil diseases).” (Abu Dawud)

#2. ‘Uthman (R.A) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) say:

“Whoever says ‘Bismillah illadhi la yadurru ma‘a ismihi shay’un fi’l-ard wa la fi’l-sama’ wa huwa al-samee‘ ul-‘aleem (In the name of Allah with Whose name nothing can harm on earth or in heaven, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing)’, three times, will not be stricken with a sudden affliction until morning comes, and whoever says them when morning comes will not be stricken with a sudden affliction until evening comes.” (Abu Dawud)

#3. Abdullah Ibn Khubayb (R.A) said:

“We went out on a rainy and very dark night, looking for the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) to lead us in prayer. We found him, and he said: “Did you pray?” But I did not say anything. He said: “Say,” but I did not say anything. Then he said: “Say,” but I did not say anything. Then he said: “Say,” and I said: What should I say, O Messenger of Allah? He said: “Ssay: Qul huwa Allahu Ahad and al-Mu’awwidhatayn, in the evening and in the morning, three times, and they will suffice you against all things.” (Tirmidhi)

#4. Abdullah ibn Umar (R.A) said:

“The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) never failed to say these supplications when evening came and when morning came: “Allahumma inni as’aluka al-‘aafiyata fi’d-dunya wa’l-aakhirah. Allahumma inni as’aluka al-‘afwa wa’l-‘aafiyata fi deeni wa dunyaaya wa ahli wa maali. Allahumma astur ‘awraati wa aamin raw‘aati. Allahumm ihfazni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi wa ‘an yameeni wa ‘an shimaali, wa min fawqi, wa a‘oodhu bi ‘azamatika an ughtaala min tahti (O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and in the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my faith, my worldly affairs, my family and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my faults and protect me from that which causes me to worry. O Allah, protect me from before me and from behind me, from my right and from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your greatness lest I be destroyed from beneath me).” (Abu Dawud)

#5. Abdullah Ibn Umar (R.A) said: One of the duas of the Prophet (PBUH) was:

“Allahumma inni a‘oodhu bika min zawaali ni‘amatika wa tahawwul ‘aafiyatika wa fujaa’ati niqmatika wa jamee‘i sakhatika (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the withdrawing of Your blessing, and the loss of the well-being that You granted me, and the sudden onset of Your wrath, and anything that may lead to Your displeasure).” (Muslim)

Some hadith on Epidemics, Viruses, and Plagues

Narrated by Amir bin Saad bin Abi Waqas (R.A):

That he heard Usama bin Zaid speaking to Saad, saying, “Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) mentioned the plague and said, ‘It is a means of punishment with which some nations were punished, and some of it has remained, and it appears now and then. So whoever hears that there is an outbreak of plague in some land, he should not go to that land, and if the disease breaks out in the area where one is already present, one should not run away from that land, escaping from the plague.” (Bukhari)

Abu Hurairah (R.A) narrated that:

The Messenger of Allah said: “The martyrs are five: Those who die of the plague, stomach illness, drowning, being crushed, and the martyr in the cause of Allah.” (Tirmidhi)

May Allah SWT protect all humankind from the Coronavirus. Aameen.
