Delhi Lockdown: Everything You Need to Know

On 22nd March, 2020, the government of Delhi, took a firm decision to lockdown the capital for a few determined days. The Chief Minister of Delhi announced the lockdown in the city until the upcoming March 31 due to the uncontrollable epidemic Covid-19, also known as Coronavirus.

Lockdown in Delhi has affected all private transport operators and businesses, and they are to prevent the spread of the deadly disease. Now the borders connected to the capital are sealed, and only essential services are permitted to cross between the states.

To stop the further issues caused by the Covid-19, the complete jurisdiction of NCT of Delhi has proclaimed national capital lockdown from Monday, March 23, 2020, to March 31 2020. During it, Delhi Metro is not in the service as well as all other kinds of public transport are disallowed only excluding Delhi Transport Corporation’s buses.

Only 25 % of DTS buses will be in the service during the lockdown in the city so that the essential services related employees can commute to their respective work locations. However, all other transports will not be allowed in the period, be it rickshaws, e-rickshaws, autorickshaws, taxis, as well as private buses.

However, for survival, many services and products are indeed required. We all need water, doctors, food goods, police, and other things to make life possible for living comfortably. CM ArvindKejriwal has also allowed such services throughout the capital. Here is the list of all essential services that are freely allowed during the Delhi lockdown:

  • Offices related to law, order, and magisterial duties.
  • Health
  • Police
  • Fire
  • Prisons
  • Electricity
  • Fair Price Shops
  • Municipal Services
  • Water
  • Print & electronic media
  • Delhi’s legislative assembly related activities and services
  • Telecom, postal and internet services
  • Cashier/teller processes of all banks
  • ATMs
  • Pay & accounts office for essential services such as wages/salary/health and necessary services/contingent
  • Groceries and Food goods
  • Milk plants and related services
  • Food home delivery services and takeaway
  • Pharmacies and chemists
  • Oil agencies, LPG, and Petrol filling stations
  • General stores
  • Animal fodder stores

All manufacturing, distribution, processing, storage, transportation, commerce/trade, and logistics regarding all of the services mentioned above are allowed.

If the government finds any other services as essential, then it will be notified and allowed as soon as possible.

The government has announced all services that are essential for a living should be allowed even during the current events that are taken in concern to the extraordinary pandemic that is dominating the world.

The Chief Minister of Delhi also criticized the people who are engaged in the black marketing of sanitizers and masks. He said that the government would not ignore such a crime against humanity, and strict actions would be taken if foundguilty of hoarding and black marketing.

At the beginning of the announcement, he mentioned a famous proverb, “Extraordinary times require extraordinary measures.” We have been blessed, for the virus came a little late in our country. We have a chance to save the lives of thousands by staying at our homes, as suggested by the CM of Delhi. Stay safe, healthy, and in high spirits!
