What does the Easter Eggs Mean?

Easter eggs are credits in software by the developer, and they are astonishing functions or hidden jokes in an application or operating system.  You can use them only by performing a particular series of secret steps similar to an Easter egg chase. It is the reason why we call them Easter eggs.

These are an unexpected piece of feature in a software or application that astonishes its users. In Microsoft, the Easter egg was started way back in 1970 when they released the Commodore PET BASIC.

1.      Microsoft Excel 95: Hall of Tortured Souls

In the 90’s, the Excel software tempted a huge share of complicated Easter eggs. For instance, in Excel 95, If you perform some hidden sophisticated steps, Hall of Tortured Souls will appear just post performing the steps. 

It was a clear hint to Doom, and you can roam in the first-person 3D atmosphere. When you cross the zigzag bridge there, you will find a room in which you can see the Excel 95’s developers names as well as the team image in low resolution.

2.      Windows 3.1: MS Bear Credits

When Windows 3.1 was under development, one of the developers created a swollen teddy bear as an Easter egg. It was more like a joke and informal mascot for the OS. In the operating system, when the team credits in the OS’s Program Manager, a bear unexpectedly enters on your computer screen. 

3.      Excel 97: Flight Simulator

This one became one of the trending and most popular Easter eggs in 90’s. It was something innovative and unique for the users. However, when you experience it on your own, you will realize that it is not really a flight simulator at all. There is no gauges or airplane controls in the Easter egg. It was an unreal 3D, first-person flying experience in a purple world.

When you go too much beyond in the game, you will discover a black monolith along with the moving names of developers of Excel 97. 

4.      Pinball in Word 97

If you have used Windows 97 in your childhood, then you might have missed it. It was one of the best games in the retro counterpart of Easter eggs. It was a pretty basic version of the Pinball game as an Easter egg in the operating system with very basic styling. Accessing it was a bit of a challenge since you need to perform some complex steps in order to see it.

5.      Racing Game in Excel 2020

As per the MS insiders, Office 2000 was the final version of the Office suite that will include an Easter egg. After that, Microsoft stopped providing Easter eggs in its software and OS.

This racing game in the Excel 2020 was a remarkable hidden featured retro game. It was a 3D car racing game. In the game, you had to race with the rival cars that were driven by the Microsoft developers.  On other cars, you will see the name of different developers.
