Zoom Now Allows to Report Meeting Participants to help Bust Zoombombers

The video conferencing app, Zoom is all set to include a way through which the hosts will be able to report meeting participants. The launch of the new feature has been confirmed in the release notes of the application. According to PC Mag, the most popular video conferencing app has added a new feature, “report a user to Zoom” option. This new reporting feature will help the users to report the incident if some unknown has entered in your meeting without your permission.  According to the release notes of the company, the newly added feature will generate a report which will be sent to the team of Zoom Trust and Safety. The team will evaluate the misuse of the case on its platform reported to it and then blocked quickly as the abuse will be proved.

The company has introduced the new button intending to catch the culprits who are intentionally responsible behind the increasing cases of Zoombombing. The instances of Zoombombing has increased a lot in these days when the whole world is following social distancing measures and using the video conferencing app for remote meetings. Several Zoombombing attacks have been reported in the few weeks, and this could emerge as a nationwide threat. The company is striving hard to streamline its features, so the incidents of Zoombombing could be stopped. The addition of the latest report button will help the users to protect themselves from cyber attackers and miscreants willing to destroy their meetings.

According to the chief product officer of Zoom Oded Gal, the latest button has been included in the security feature. He made it clear in the webinar organized with the Anti-Defamation League and said that the newest feature would help the company to capture even the minute information taking place in the meeting. However, the company has yet not disclosed how it will use the gathered information to stop the Zoombombing and people behind the attacks of Zoombombing. But, it appears that the new feature will enable the Zoom app to seize the IP addresses of the culprits, and then these will be blacklisted. Also, it seems that the company could further report to the law enforcement agencies regarding the information as the culprits or the attackers may use the VPN service for bypassing the IP ban and scrambling the users’ location.

Apart from these, the chief product office of Zoom, Oded Gal, has also recommended the users to take the screenshots of the attacks of Zoombombing as soon as it occurs. He further added that such screen captures would help the company to track the culprits. Meanwhile, the company has made it clear that the inclusion of the latest security feature was scheduled on Sunday, but it was pushed back due to some of the reasons. While describing the use of the newest security features, the company said that the users who are hosting the meeting on Zoom could move to the Security option appearing on the bottom and then tap on the choice of “report” if someone has intruded in the conference. Also, the company has introduced a dedicated webpage for the users so they could report the incidents of Zoombombing.
