Grand Valley Institution for Women is a prison for women in Kitchener, Ontario, under the operations of the federal Correctional Service of Canada (CSC).

In Canada, ladies condemned to jail provisions of more noteworthy than two years serve their time in a federal institution that is being operated by the CSC.  In Ontario, there is a prison, which can house around 130 ladies as of April 2010.  However, the number of prisoners has since risen. Grand Valley Institute for Women is the only federal women's prison in Ontario.

The History Of Grand Valley Institution For Women

The prison for women was opened in 1997. Earlier, the Women Prison in Kingston, Ontario, was the only federal women's prison in Canada. Initially, the neighbours of Kitchener have opposed the development due to its location due to its proximity to residential areas.  But as of 2017, the opponent had stepped down. In the beginning, The housing for lower security prisoners was built, and then later, the housing for maximum security prisoners was built.

The maximum number of prisoners lives in isolated buildings or "cottages."

The jail has a protected unit for prisoners incidentally held in authoritative segregation, who don't communicate well with other detainees, and those named as most excellent security prisoners, who are held in "pods." In each pod, it contains five cells.

At the initial time, the jail had a white picket barrier as a border, but later it is replaced with a chain-link barbed-wire barrier.

Roughly in 2017, the prison had 168 prisoners, with most of them having four or fewer years remaining on their sentences, and their children accompany 13 of them being treated as maximum security and Four of them. The prison had almost 208 employees.
