Why?

With apologies to Shakespeare - "let me count the ways"

What numbers do we love?

birthdays
data and crime lab stats as in the media shows
cell phone numbers
addresses
happy anniversaries
milestone markers of our own children
test scores
lotteries
horse races
What numbers should we hate [or dislike]?

school math
birthdays
weight
body mass index
test scores
sad anniversaries
Some numbers have been in both categories because our love or hate sometimes is determined by the particular number!

Numbers in cultures and religions

In a few cultures our age number is assigned whenever we finish that year plus other cultures that age number is offered at the outset of the season - beginning on the beginning of life. So you age number will differ according to your culture!

In Hebrew, all letters have a numerical equivalent and each word's number may be the total of people individual numbers - therefore words have numerical meaning plus the literal meaning. Along with the Hebrew bible [Torah or Old Testament] includes a book called Numbers.

Particular numbers have significance determined by your beliefs. Some of these are 3, 7, and 666.

Children love numbers

counting games
boardgames
birthday candles
the number of cookies or presents
what their age is
just endless reciting of numbers or counting
Teens and Adults get the love-hate relationship with numbers

Whenever we so love numbers if we are young - how are you affected we begin to dislike them?

Let's start with parents who like to talk about the terrible 2's. Are the 2's so "terrible" or shall we be pre-programmed to consider so? And do we pass this onto our youngsters so that they start to learn that some numbers are not-so-good???

We contain the amorphous "someone" who informs us that arithmetic is tough. I not really know who started this myth yet it's a myth. Worse - we tell children that arithmetic is more difficult for girls than for boys! So those numbers learn to enter in the hate category.

We like turning 13! We're teenagers! And very soon we can drive!

We desire to get good grades in class and so on the tests that "matter." If the numbers are not what we were hoping or expecting we sad or perhaps depressed. Yet not many of us question whether those test numbers mean anything in real life outside school. We assign love/hate to them.

And in many countries we like to reaching the legal day of driving, drinking and voting or marrying. These are most often good numbers and we all love them.

Unless, naturally, we hate them!

Look at the numbers in your life and rather than creating a love/hate relationship using them, think about whatever they mean to you personally and why...then learn how to love these! They may be your numbers and they're you!
