Commen problems with LED grow lights

In order to obtain optimal growth and yield, LED grow light must be used appropriately. The most common mistake of led is that there is not enough light and the light is not placed at an appropriate distance. If you do not provide enough light, your plants cannot fully realize their potential. Similarly, incorrect light placement can prevent plants from growing fully. Putting the lamp too close will hinder growth, and too far will cause stretching. Follow the recommended coverage areas listed on the detailed information page for each light source to get the best light penetration and coverage. Remember, there are many variables for indoor growth, and lighting is the most critical one.

How Close Should LED Grow Lights Be to Plants?

A general rule is that LED lights should be about 12–30 inches from the top of your plant. As your plants grow, you have to change the height of your lights to accommodate the growing plants’ height.

Again, at every stage of plant growth, the distance between LED lights and plants is not universal. Different manufacturers construct their LED lights in different ways. There are many details to consider, such as the power and angle of a single LED diode in a fixture, and the use of a lens to reflect light downward. The best way to get the perfect distance between your light and your canopy is to consult with the manufacturer.

Will LED Grow Lights Hurt Your Eyes?

Don’t watch the LED glow directly because it is very bright. It is recommended to protect your eyes when working around any bright light source (including LED brightening lights). Working around the plant when there is no light is also a good choice.

How to improve uniformity of LED lights?

One of the common methods to fix this low uniformity problem is to use LEDs with large beam angles. This is because the lights can spread outward the lamp. To further improve uniformity, we can even use secondary reflection to illuminate the area. For example, we can guide floodlights upwards to the ceiling to use reflected light to illuminate indoor areas, such as homes or sports fields. So, you will get a highly uniform illumination because the ceiling is like a diffuser, softening the light. However, the limitation is that we will need more LED lights because some lumens are absorbed by the ceiling and the light beams are scattered in different directions.

Why are LED grow lights purple?

LED grow lights have multiple diodes that each emit a single color of light. Some have only white diodes, while others have diodes in various different colors. It is the combination of those colors that creates the light we see. Fixtures that emit a purple light contain a large amount of red and blue diodes.

How to choose the best LED grow light?

Energy Efficient
Immediate reduction of power consumption from much lower wattage requirements = lower utility bills.

Maintenance & Safety
Reduced recycling costs required to dispose of hazardous bulbs and ballast. Better color rendering for security cameras compared to low-pressure sodium lighting.

Durable Quality
LEDs are extremely durable and built with sturdy components that are highly rugged and can withstand even the roughest conditions.

Design Flexibility
Individual LEDs can be dimmed, resulting in a dynamic control of light, color and distribution.
