If you are using Internet Explorer and facing ‘not responding due to a long-running script error’ while browsing a web page, then it may occur because of generic glitch or script debugging. So, if you are facing this issue, then here are the steps to fix this error.

Perform Windows Internet Troubleshooter

  1. Go to the ‘Windows Internet troubleshooter’ and download it.
  2. After that, select the downloaded file and twice click on it to perform the troubleshooter.
  3. Reach the troubleshooter screen, click on the Advanced option.
  4. You should mark the ‘Apply repairs automatically’ box.
  5. Select the Next button.
  6. The troubleshooter will start to scan the PC for any problems using the browser and save the needed fixes.
  7. After applying the fixes, shut the troubleshooter and reboot the system.
  8. Now, look at the improvements by opening the Internet Explorer once again.

Turn off the Antivirus

  1. In case you have third party antivirus, then attempt to turn off temporarily.
  2. After that, reach the Controls and click on it.
  3. Then click on the ‘Disable for 10 minutes’ option.
  4. It will turn off the antivirus for a while before it begins the software once more automatically.
  5. Now, invoke the Internet Explorer then look whether the issue continues.

Turn off Script Debugging

  1. You should invoke Internet Explorer.
  2. After that, select the Settings button at the upper right side of the screen.
  3. Then click on the Internet Options.
  4. Once you reach the Internet Options screen, invoke the Advanced section.
  5. Beneath the Settings field, move down to the ‘Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer)’ below Browsing.
  6. You have to move down and mark the box of ‘Display a notification about every script error.’
  7. Thereafter, select the Apply Button and then choose the OK to apply the changes.
  8. Later, shut the Internet Explorer.
  9. Now, reopen the Internet Explorer then check whether the problem is fixed or not.

Check Problems with the Web Page

  1. In case the problem is happening with the particular web page, the problem could use the site automatically and not the browser.
  2. You should attempt launching the web page on any browser instead of IE and check whether the issue continues.
  3. In case the issue happens on another browser, the problem is most probably with the web page.
  4. Now, in case you go to the web page more often, attempt contacting the administrator.
