Review of Microsoft Surface Book 3: Big Specs for Big Price
If you keep a couple of USB port changes aside, you might not be able to differentiate between the Microsoft Surface Book 3 and its predecessors. Both look identical, in terms of keyboard, chassis color, and other hardware as well. Some internal features make this laptop different from their other products. It has a 1065G7 Intel Core i7 processor and GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q Nvidia graphics card, which is sufficient for you to perform all the daily tasks and play some games. It is one of the finest systems, but it is a little bit pricey, so it might scare off the price sensitive buyers.

The major selling points of the Surface Book is the seamless functioning as a laptop and tablet both. If you have a tablet and hate writing on them, then you may need to spend around $100 on purchasing a separate keyboard. But you don’t need to worry about the Surface Book 3 as it comes with a keyboard that can allow you to type as fast as you can. If you want a keyboard, then you might not mind paying extra than the price of a tablet.

There are two versions of Surface Book 3, i.e., 13.5 and 15-inch versions. The 15-inch version offers a 3240 x 2160 display, with 260 PPI, and is selling with a price tag of $2,300. With a 13.5-inches version, you will get a 3000 x 2000 resolution display and a slightly larger 267PPI in just $1,600. The larger screen may give you a larger area to access the in-display keyboard and perform other tasks on the screen.

If you don’t want a physical keyboard, then you can disconnect the keyboard base easily. You can do it by pushing a button located on the top-right corner of the keyboard. You will hear a click sound, and a notification will pop-up on your screen that tells you that it’s safe to remove the keyboard from the device.

The Surface Book 3 is not just a simple tab or laptop. You can also use it as the digital notebook as well, and for accessing this feature, you might need to buy a pen separately that would cost you around $100.

Due to its specs, you can also use it for gaming, but playing games on Surface Book 3 is quite strange because of its screen ratio. The gaming screen has a 16:9 ratio, but the ratio of the Surface 3 is 3:2, which is similar to its previous versions.

The device offers 1080 pixels and a 60 frame per second, which is sufficient to play games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Far Cry 5. If the game demands more pixels, then the frame per second drops, which is not at all a surprising element. For gaming, you might need the GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q Graphics processing unit that comes with Surface Book 3. Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor is good, but for gaming, you need a better processor for CPU intensive games.

If you like the versatility and the improved battery life of the Surface Book 3, then you can go for this product. The Surface Book 3 offers 11 hours of long battery life, which is damn good. It makes it worth spending extra 100 bucks for these features.

Bottomline

Surface Book 3 is one of the best for the light gaming and light creativity. If you are looking for a device that can give higher gaming performance and perform serious video editing projects, then you should look for the other laptops with higher GPU. If you don’t need a bigger laptop with average performance, then a 13.5-inches version Surface Book 3 will be a great option for you. It is a less-expensive model that can give you a decent performance.
