Immune System

HOW TO ENHANCE IMMUNITY

Immune system is the system that fights against infections and having a strong immune system means a person is less prone to infections and diseases. Some people easily get ill due to the fact that their immune system is not strong enough to fight against the invading pathogens.

SUPPLEMENTS

Use of some natural as well as synthetic supplements can improve the immune system.

One of the best ways to strengthen the immune system is to eat fruits and vegetables because they contain adequate fractions of vitamins and minerals that are necessary for normal functioning of the immune system in providing defense to body against invading microbes.

Vitamins that are best for boosting your Immunity also used some medicine for this process like Immune booster, Vitamin C etc Here is some good online Health Care Stores.

Citrus fruits

Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, limes are the rich natural sources of the Ascorbic acid commonly known as the Vitamin-C.

Vitamin-C boosts the immune system by increasing the number of white blood cells in the plasma. The WBCs form antibodies that fight against germs. Neutrophils are the type of WBCs that kill and digest bacteria and viruses.

Spinach

Spinach is also rich in Vitamin-C. The vitamin works as an antioxidant and inhibits the chain-reaction of free-radicals (reactive species) that damage cells.

Yogurt

Yogurt is a natural source of Calcium. Calcium activates the T-lymphocytes. These cells play central role in cell-mediated immunity.

Almonds

Almonds contain vitamin E which is another powerful antioxidant after vitamin-C. being a fat-soluble vitamin, it is absorbed properly because the almonds contain healthy fats.

Poultry

Poultry is rich in Pyridoxine, the vitamin B6. Pyridoxine is important in body’s chemical reactions.

Vitamin B6 helps in regulation of immune responses that deal with inflammation and various neoplasiae. This vitamin helps the body to make antibodies, immunoglobulin G and immunoglobulin M which control body tissue infections and cell-mediated immunity by activating T-lymphocytes respectively.

Shellfish

Some shellfishes are packed with Zinc(Zn), a mineral that has multiple aspects on the immune system. Zinc is necessary for the production of neutrophils, macrophages and other chemical mediators.

OTHER WAYS TO ENHANCE THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

DOS AND DON’TS

DOS:

HAVE ENOUGH SLEEP

During sleep, the immune system releases chemical mediators, the cytokines, that need to increase during an infection or acute inflammation. Not having enough sleeping hours can lead to decreased production of cytokines. It is advised to have an 8-hour sleep daily for normal body functioning.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Physical activity or exercise is essential for healthy life. Deep breathing after exercise due to exhaustion can help exhaling out bacteria and viruses from the lungs and respiratory tract reducing chances of getting cold, flu or any other respiratory illness.

Regular 30 minutes physical exercise for 4 days a week can help body fight infections. Physical activities can include walking, running, hopping, jumping, biking, gym etc.

DON’TS:

AVOID STRESS AND ANXIETY

Stress releases corticosteroid hormone that lowers the number of lymphocytes causing suppression of immune system.

Anxiety can trigger fight-or-flight response and excessive release of adrenaline which can leave you vulnerable to recurrent infections and frequent illnesses.

AVOID ALCOHOL

In order to have a sound immune system, one should completely quit or take alcohol only in moderate quantities as excess of alcohol weakens the immune system and it can’t perform its function efficiently.
