Rome - what should you know before you leave?

All roads lead to Rome... Whoever comes here will have to come back here. And not because of the coin thrown into the Trevi Fountain, but because of longing, because Rome is a magical city, full of wonders...

Trevi Fountain

To be sure of returning to Rome, tourists toss coins into the Trevi Fountain, the most famous fountain in the world. He owes his world fame not only to this tradition, but also to Anita Ekelberg, or more precisely to her night-time bath in one of the scenes of Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita.

Via Appia

From lesser-known places you should see the Via Appia (the oldest road in Rome) and the church Quo Vadis. According to the reports, it was here that Jesus appeared to Peter escaping from Rome. The bust of Henryk Sienkiewicz was founded in the church. There is also the icon of Giotto. It is also worth visiting the Romanesque Church of St. Agnes, where the famous Mouth of Truth is located. In the dark Middle Ages they were not very popular because they were a warning for women suspected of infidelity. They were afraid that if they betrayed their husband and did not tell the truth, after putting their hand in their mouth - it would be cut off by God.

Prices

Rome is one of the most expensive cities in the world. Most articles are expensive and water is the exception. Very tasty and crystal clear drinking water flows from each of more than 2500 fountains, 1500 of which are small works of art. Their name is "Nasoni" (Nosale), it came from the shape of a protruding metal part, resembling a nose. It was first installed in 1874.

Museums

There are many museums in Rome, but there is also the Museum of the Souls in Purgatory. It was founded by Father Victor Jouet. He collects exhibits from all over Europe in one of the churches with descriptions of events in which the souls of the dead were to take part. These include fingerprints and palms of the deceased burned on books and pieces of fabric.

Did you know that...?

The famous Colosseum was opened in 80 A.D. During the popular games in ancient Rome, more than a million people and about half a million animals were killed in the arena.

Rome already in the first century A.D. had 1.5 million inhabitants and until the 19th century it was the largest city in the world.
