How to Turn a Smartphone into PC: 5 Easy Ways

Your smartphone has everything a computer possesses, be it processor, RAM, storage, operating system, and more. So, why can’t you use it as a PC when you need it? Although you can’t turn a phone into a full-fledged PC without using any accessories.

In this article, we are going to show you five best methods to convert a smartphone into a computer. In every method, you will need a screen or TV to use as a monitor for the computer. You will also need a mouse and keyboard along with the monitor.

How to Turn a Smartphone Into a Desktop

To use a phone as a desktop, you only need a few things and here’s everything you need:

  • A wired or Bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
  • A screen mirroring device or display supporting wireless HDMI.
  • You can also use a dock that has HDMI, Ethernet, and USB.

Method 1: Using Samsung DeX Desktop Mode

If you own a Samsung phone and if it supports the DeX desktop mode, you can use it as a desktop with ease. If your phone model is Galaxy S8/S8+, Note 8, or newer, your phone probably supports DeX. Samsung has developed DeX for its smartphone series, which is a desktop environment for Android. You can easily use it through the notification panel on your device.

All you need to do is pair your mobile device with the available wireless HDMI-ready display, pair the mouse and keyboard, and then you are all set. Once DeX is all set up, it will provide you a Windowed environment, and you will be able to access all Android-based productivity and other applications.

Method 2: Turning a Phone into PC with Ubuntu Touch

Ubuntu Touch is a Linux-driven operating system for mobile devices. The UBports team manages the software, and it is compatible with the below phones:

  • OnePlus One
  • Fairphone 2
  • LG Nexus 5 (2013)

It is also a desktop environment much similar to Samsung’s DeX. It activates only when you connect your device with an external display. Once you connect your phone to a cordless HDMI enabled TV, the user interface of this operating system will feel like complete Ubuntu. This operating system also has several built-in productivity apps so that you can start working on your projects right away.

Method 3: Using Maru OS to Use a Phone Like a PC

Maru OS is an Android motivated operating system. If you own Nexus 5X or Nexus 5 2013, you are good to go. The Maru OS beta can also run on Nexus 6P and Google Pixel mobiles. It is a complete computer operating system for a smartphone. You need first to install Maru OS to your Android phone to convert it into a desktop.

Method 4: Using Sentio

It was initially known as Andromium OS. It is like you are using a desktop environment on your Android phone. You can either use a standard HDMI display or Superbook hardware to turn your Android phone to a PC.  With this method, your phone becomes a CPU, and you will be able to use any external display as a monitor for it.

Sentio Desktop is free to download and use. The best thing about this software is that you can use it almost on every Android device that has enough installation storage space and processing power to run a desktop environment.

Method 5: Leena Desktop UI

It is a PC- themed launcher for Android devices and has a similar user environment to that of macOS. You can also use a docking station to connect different peripherals. You can cast your phone screen or use screen mirroring to use your desktop launcher on a monitor.

Conclusion

These days, turning mobile phones into PCs is pretty easy and it can enable you to perform many important tasks. You will experience the complete desktop environment when you use your phone as a PC.
