Amaia Breast pump: Electric or manual? Which are the best brands?

What is the best breast pump? Is it better electric or manual? Which brand to buy Chicco, Medela, Philips Avent, or Tomme Tippee? It is known that mothers who choose to breastfeed provide their babies with a food of the highest nutritional value, and as is well known, it is recommended to keep it exclusively on demand for as long as possible. While we are at home, breastfeeding on demand and meeting the baby's needs is a bit easier, but once we rejoin the work routine, continuing to breastfeed becomes complicated. It is in these moments when the breast pump is essential.

Let us remember that breastfeeding is the best food for your baby and it is super economical, so the breast pump is an excellent option

A pump is a practical tool that, in addition to facilitating the rise of milk at the beginning of lactation, allows us to maintain and prolong breastfeeding even when we are not at home and especially allows us to save a lot of money, hence the importance to have a breast pump always at hand. But which breast pump to buy? What aspects should be taken into account? Which is better, manual or electric? Which is the best brand?

What is a breast pump?

Also known as breast pumps, the breast pump is a device that helps to extract milk from the mother's breast, to be stored in a container, and to be able to use it later. By incorporating a bottle to deposit all the milk, we can cover it and keep it or add a nipple and offer it immediately to the baby.

The milk extract performs the same function as the baby when sucking the nipple, so it also stimulates the production of milk. However, it is important to clarify that the breast pump always extracts less amount than the baby sucks, that is why it is not necessary to measure the amount of milk you produce based on the pump.

Types of breast pumps: What to buy?
Since each breastfeeding mother has a different rhythm of life and different needs in terms of breastfeeding, in the market you can find many models of breast pumps for your choice, budget, and comfort, but if we speak in general terms, these are classified into two types: electric breast pump and manual breast pump.

1. Electric breast pump
The electric breast pump is ideal to use when we know that we are going to be away from home for a long time so we are going to use it. These extractors work by means of a small electric motor that starts the extraction. They are designed with different levels of speed and suction to avoid damaging the nipple.

Most of these pumps come with extra batteries or batteries in case the mother is away from home and does not have an outlet within reach. Some models suck the nipple as if it were the baby itself breastfeeding, through slow and fast sections. You can even find them with two nozzles to express milk from both nipples at the same time.

2. Manual breast pump
Manual breast pumps are those that work by pressing a lever or pumping a piston, through which the breast is stimulated and the level of suction is controlled. Due to the sucking rhythm they exert, this type of pump tends to be more similar to the baby's suction.

Manual breast pumps tend to be more like suckling but require more effort and require our attention

In most cases, these pumps come with a single mouthpiece and are much slower than electric breast pumps. As they require at least one free hand to use it, they can be very exhausting, it is even likely that they will not be able to empty the chest completely, so they are not highly recommended if you need to use it several times a day.

3. Hospital model breast pump
In general, this type of pump is recommended when you have difficulty breastfeeding your baby. If the baby is premature and is in intensive care or has some kind of problem producing milk, it is very likely that the doctor will recommend the use of this type of pump.

The model of this pump is more powerful than the electric one, since it allows to extract the milk from both nipples at the same time, quickly and effectively. As if the baby was sucking.

Breast pumps Best brands, models and uses!
Breast pumps, whether electric or manual, are very useful during breastfeeding. They allow you to express and store milk, to make breastfeeding a little easier and prolong it for as long as possible. There are many models of breast pumps, each one to fit the needs of each mother.
