Panama Birds

Panama might be best known for the canal but it also happens to be one of the most bio diverse places on the planet. At Panama Bird Photo Tour one gets excellent opportunities for watching exotic animals like monkeys, sloths, toucans, parrots, and other beautiful birds. There are beautiful birds to see just about everywhere you go in Panama, even in the parks of Panama City.

One of the common parrot species is the Red-lured. Since this fairly large parrot thrives in areas with patchy forest and farmlands, it can be seen in many parts of Panama.

Another common parrot is the Blue-headed. Watch for this beautiful bird in low elevations throughout the country.

Toucans can also be seen in some areas. The stunning Keel-billed Toucan is fairly common in Metropolitan Park, near the canal, and many other places in the country.

Many species of hummingbirds are also frequently seen including the striking White-necked Jacobin, and the Snowy-bellied Hummingbird.

As far as small birds go, beautiful tanagers are also a common sight. Look for species like the Blue-grey, Golden-hooded, Crimson-backed, and Flame-rumped in gardens and forest edge.

Panama is somewhat less rich with exciting man-made landmarks if compared with many other Latin American countries – but some of these monuments are very exciting. The nature of Panama, in turn, is impressive almost everywhere.

Biodiversity- Being between South America and North America, between the Caribbean and Pacific has resulted in a very high biological diversity. Panama has thousands of species which are found nowhere else and, most likely – many stiller waiting to be discovered. Unique ecosystems have developed in montane meadows (paramos) and cloud forest in the high mountains; special biotopes have developed on secluded islands.

Archaeological monuments- Overshadowed by the great Mayan and Inca civilizations to the north and south, Panama though has interesting monuments created by local cultures. The country has amazing, undeciphered petroglyphs and impressive, somewhat enigmatic stone sculptures.

Historical cities-  Some of the oldest European cities (and stone structures) in the Americas are located in Panama, with interesting architecture in Renaissance and Baroque styles.
