Raising a puppy will be one of the best periods of your life. But it will also be a very difficult one. It is not easy to properly take care of all the needs of a puppy. Besides the general needs like feeding, cleaning, and playing with it, you also need to train it. While it is small, you should teach your pet to stay in a puppy pen. And after he grows up, you will need to train it to stay in dog crates. These are essential steps that you need to make if you want to properly raise your puppy. 

And the first thing that you will have to do is to find a proper pen. There are several requirements that you need to keep in mind while you make your choice. Firstly, even if your pet is small, but with time it will grow. So, the pen needs to be big enough to keep it inside even after it grows. It also needs to be large enough to let your puppy play inside and have enough space for food and training pads without bothering it. The better you accomplish this training, the easier your job will be in the future. 

It Will Be Easy to Change from the Pen to Dog Crates!

One of the challenges that you will have after your puppy grows up is to train him to stay inside a dog crate without harming his mental health. You need to make sure that it does not feel like being captive or punished while staying in  dog crates . Obviously, the pen will be a preparation helpful for that future. And it will be easier to make the transition than going directly from total freedom to spending time in the crate. But why do you need to train him to stay in there? 

There are 3 situations when you will need to keep your dog in a crate or a cage. Keep in mind that all of them are for the well-being of your pet. And you should never treat this as punishment. 

• Home alone. If you need to leave the house and there is no one to stay with your dog, then you should make him stay in a crate. Why? Because there can be dangerous to let him free inside the house without any supervision. Not only can he damage parts of your house, like furniture. But he can also harm itself in the process. So, it will be better for both of you if he is trained to stay in the crate while it stays alone in the house. 
• Nighttime. Similar situations like those mentioned above can also happen during the night. So, to prevent any accidents, you should also keep your dog inside the crate while you sleep. This process will be easy to accomplish if you trained it as a puppy to stay inside a pen during the night. Also, your dog will sleep most of the time, and the only factor that you need to consider is to not make him feel anxious and scared while it stays in there. 
• Car driving. In this situation, you will need to keep your dog in a cage. If you need to drive and take it with you, then it will be safer to do that. Even if there is someone that can keep an eye on it, but it is unforeseeable how it will react to the car movements. So, it is the safest method to keep it in the cage on the way. 

How Can You Decorate the Puppy Pen!

But while your dog is still small, the  puppy pen  will be his house most of the time. There are 4 factors that you need to keep in mind while buying and decorating the pen. Two of them were mentioned above. And that is to place the food and training pads in there. Doing this will also make the training of your puppy to use the pads easier. Besides those, there are two other factors that you need to consider. 

Those are the toys that your puppy will need, and to make sure that the pen complements the room. It should not look awkward in comparison with the furniture and the other decorations in the room. And you should do the same with the dog crates in the future. As for the toys, they are essential in helping your puppy exercise and keep its body healthy. Even if you play together, but you will not be able to do that all the time. So, you can use some toys to keep your pet busy while you can’t play together.
