Almost Avengers: Marvel movies that never happened

There were several films scheduled earlier for production before the Marvel Cinematic Universe but never happened such as Iron Man starring Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio as Spider-Man, and many more. Marvel movies like Avengers: Endgame and the upcoming Black Widow include various stars playing comic book heroes such as George Clooney, Tom Selleck, and the wife of David Bowie. However, all of these have not appeared in Marvel movies, but nearly they did. There were a lot of TV shows and films planned long before the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but they never happened. There were some rumors regarding Tom Cruise playing as a replacement for Iron Man in the upcoming film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. There is also a possibility that these alternate universes might cross over.

Here are some of the Marvel movies that never happened.

Black Widow and Daredevil

Black Widow is a character portrayed by Scarlett Johansson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She is now a deserving Avenger, and Black Widow is her upcoming movie this year. On the other hand, Daredevil is a Netflix show which was released in the year 2015. But a combined film named Black Widow and Daredevil was scheduled in 1975. At that time, Angie got married to David Bowie and bought the rights to both Black Widow and Daredevil. However, this project was not completed.

Doctor Strange

Benedict Cumberbatch is playing the role of Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Several previous attempts were made to release a film named Stephen Strange, however, it did not happen. Bob Gale wrote a script, and later it was set to be directed by Wes Craven, but it did not work at all.

Luke Cage

In the year 1980, the actor of Rocky III, Carl Weathers, was set to portray the role of Luke Cage, also known as Power Man but it also did not happen. Later, Luke Cage finally grabbed the opportunity to work in his series on Netflix, played by Mike Colter.

The Human Torch

The Human Torch is a character from the famous series, Fantastic Four. Chris Evans has played the role of Human Torch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Irwin Allen was an American film producer and director. He once owned the rights to the Human Torch. And Paul Newman was set to be the star in Allen’s next film portraying the role of Human Torch, but it also did not work.

Captain America

Charles Bronson, the actor of the film, Death Wish, directed by Michael Winner, was once proposed for the role of Captain America film. Michael Winner along with TV scriptwriters Stan Hey and Chap Hey wrote a script for a Captain America film, in which the Statue of Liberty was kidnapped, but Marvel rejected this script.

She-Hulk

In the year 1990, a film was proposed, She-Hulk in which the actress Brigitte Nielsen was signed to play the role of Jade Giantess. The director of the movie was Larry Cohen, but somehow this project also remained in the scripts.

Iron Man

Universal had the rights to the Iron Man movie since 1990, and after six years, Universal gave up making an Iron Man movie and sold their rights to Fox in 1996. The writer Jeff Vintar along with Stan Lee, wrote a new story for a new Iron Man movie starring Tom Cruise because he wanted to work in an Iron Man movie. Later, Cruise denied working in this film for some reason, and after the release of Robert Downey’s Iron Man, he told people in an interview that Robert is his favorite and no one could ever replace him as the Iron Man.

Black Panther

Wesley Snipes had been waiting for the role of Black Panther earlier in the year 1990. Snipes became excited to know about the idea of playing the role of T’Challa. Snipes thought it would be a great hit, but he was not able to pitch Black Panther as a superhero, and the plan was abandoned. The character of Black Panther was finally played by Chadwick Boseman in the film, Black Panther released in the year 2018.

After discussing some of the Marvel movies that never happened, we have concluded that these films had great potential and should have been released before the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the current MCU is already doing an excellent job.
