Slavery goes back a long way and there was nothing new about it in the 18th Century. Slavery existed during the Roman Empire and it led to its decline, it existed in numerous countries across the globe in the 18th century and trading slaves was normal for Europeans, Americans and others. In the south, farming was the only way to get rich and wealthy people needed slaves on their plantation in order to support the lifestyle they were accustomed to. Given the fact that farm machineries did not exist, manual labor was all they had and this meant a huge number of slaves. When it comes to slavery in the constitution, there is not much information you will find in it about this matter. Our states had numerous presidents over the years, some better than others. There are various rankings of the top 5 best presidents these days.

What Should You Know about Slavery in the Constitution?

It was imperative for the 13 colonies to collaborate and work together to become a sovereign Nation and to chase away the British from our land. The North and the South did not have the same opinion when it comes to slavery; when it comes to slavery in the Constitution, it was the North who wanted to abolish it and the South who needed it in order to survive. Unfortunately, the north had no other option but to accept it as a reality in the southern states. The needs of the southern economy were important and this is why there was not such a thing as an “anti-slavery” clause in the Constitution.

Freedom for all remained just a dream until President Lincoln came into the scene and he issued the Emancipation Proclamation that freed all slaves in all territories. The northern colonies were aware of the fact that they needed the southern ones to win their independence and this is why they did nothing about  slavery in the constitution . At that time, they had to focus on what mattered the most to them and that was to separate from Britain and to form our own country.

It is important to know that:
• The British imposed huge taxes on the colonies
• The colonists had no legal representation in the British Parliament
• The North was affected by the increase of the taxes more than the South for it depended more on trade
• The Revolutionary War began in 1776
• The southern states agreed to participate in the Revolution only if they kept their slaves
• The northern colonies had no other choice but to accept this
• The Constitution was ratified in 1788 and it became the document that controlled the Country in 1789.

Who Are the Top 5 Best Presidents?

Our country has had numerous presidents over the years, some better than others; things have changed greatly from the Declaration of Independence in 1776. It is difficult to make a ranking given the fact that our presidents dealt with different national, international, economic and social environments. Nonetheless, when it comes to the best presidents , there are some names that will never be forgotten and that deserve to appear in this ranking. These are:

George Washington (1789-1797)- he was the one who chased away the British from our land, he was named Commander in Chief and he is known for his contribution during the Revolutionary War; he was in charge of the Siege of Boston, the Battle of Trenton and the Capture and the surrender of the British. As President of the United States he is the one who created the operational structure for the Executive Branch and the federal judiciary.

Abraham Lincoln (1861-1864) – he was President when the southern states wanted to leave the Union and he defeated them; he is the one who did his best to restore normality in the south, who freed the slaves and planned the reorganization of the south. During his mandate as president, the Republican Party became a powerful organization.

Dwight D. Eisenhower (1953-1961)- he was President during War World 2, he served two terms, he focused on building and consolidating our military capabilities and he established the first Balanced Budget.

Ronald Reagan (1981-1989)- he was known for his negotiation skills in public relations, he knew how to handle the Congress, he restructured the tax code together with the Congress and he supported anti-communist activities in foreign allies.

Donald J. Trump (2017-2021)- he is constantly challenged and disrupted by the Democratic Party yet he continues to do a great job for our citizens. He has faced unusual factors during his Presidency and that is Covid-19 and despite all that he reestablished military dominance, he balanced import-export activities and placed severe restrictions on immigration.

These are the ones that will always be remembered as the best presidents of our States.

Why There is Not Much about Slavery in the Constitution?

Considering the fact that the North and the South had to work together to drive away the British and to gain its independence, the colonies in the North had no other option but to accept the conditions of the South so that they can work together. This was necessary in order to obtain their independence and as such the North had to accept the fact that it couldn’t do anything about slavery for it needed the help of the South. This is why there is no anti-slavery in the constitution.

When it comes to the best presidents of the States, different people have different opinions. It is quite a challenge to make an accurate ranking given the fact that our Presidents lived in different times and economic climates. Nonetheless, there are some that managed to have a huge contribution and they are the ones that will always be remembered and cherished by our citizens. What they did for their country will not be forgotten any time soon and all their actions had a great impact on who we are as a Nation.
