Know all about Bone Inlay Furniture

Bone inlay, also known as intarsia, refers to an ancient decorative technique that involves embedding delicate, hand-carved pieces of bone into an object's surface. The fragments of bone or shell can also adhere to the frame of a furniture piece. It is most commonly used on flat surfaces – such as the sides and tops of tables or the front of a sideboard. The result makes for striking contrasting colors and materials that add surface splendor to any room. Bone inlay furniture in Singapore is said to be the most beautiful type.

The process of inlaying begins with a design or pattern which is carved out from the material. In our case, it's either mother of pearl or cruelty-free polished bone from camels that have died of natural causes, but it can be done with wood, metal, marble, and ivory. Then, with a base object, impressions are made to match said pattern or design so that the delicate pieces of bone can be meticulously inserted onto the surface.

The carved bone pieces are then surrounded by contrasting resin for an immaculately smooth finish. Each furniture piece that comes out of the artisanal process features bone fragments contrasted against a darker background – resulting in a gorgeous, one-of-a-kind pattern that works as statement decor in its own right. Ornate and eye-catching, bone inlays make striking home decoration pieces. It can tie a whole space together, adding a dash of excitement with its character and tapestry of colors, textures, and patterns. And while the style has ancient roots, we're confident that these furnishings have a place in a contemporary home and that it's an art form that has and will continue to stand the test of time.

Inlaying furniture doesn't always involve bone; some of the most popular materials used in the process include shell and ivory. Both of these create the same soft white contrast as actual bone pieces. However, it is also common to see 'inlay' furniture designs featuring colorful dyes over the natural white coloring. No matter what type or kind of furniture we use, it plays an important role in defining our lifestyle and the culture and religious inclination of ours, no matter what our social standing is.
