PlayStation Role-Playing Games That Were Either Too Short or Too Long

When PlayStation was first released in 1995, it revolutionized the gaming industry. In those days, the 3D games were quite ordinary, but PS1 changed everything and had a huge role to play in the evolution of the games that we play today. It is not surprising that the console was sold all over the world. There are several role-playing games that one can play irrespective of the overall length. But in the absence of a standard game length, the games were either too long or too short. Today we look at some of the RPGs that could have achieved more if there was a fixed average length for the games.

 Suikoden

Konami has already established itself in the gaming industry by 1995. They were quite popular, so when they released Suikoden, it got a lot of attention. With the traditional game elements, it was a single-player RPG. The players have to complete the tasks given to them by talking to strangers and exploring the world. Although the game was good, it had one big flaw. For an RPG game, it was really short, as one can complete the entire game in just 20 hours.

Koudelka

There are very few horror role-playing games, and Koudelka is, without a doubt, one of the best. With PS2 gaining popularity in 2000, the game was launched worldwide. However, this created a big hurdle for the game as it did not get the attention that it deserved. But one more serious issue with the game was the fact that it was barely 12 hours long. So, despite being a unique game that had a lot of potential, Koudelka ruined their chances because of its longevity.

Final Fantasy VIII

Most of the Final Fantasy games are heavy, but they are still quite popular. This is also true for Final Fantasy VIII, which was positively received by both fans and critics. However, since the game was an improvement over the seventh main title in the series, it got a little too bulkier. Sometimes one feels that the game is being dragged on for too long. The ninety-four long playtime is a bit too much for anyone to digest.

Parasite Eve

Developed by Square Parasite, Eve is a role-playing action game. The game was expected to be a long one because of the reputation of its creators; however, it turns out that it was only nine hours long. Its length was the only reason that it got so much flak from its fans and critics. But despite being so short, Parasite Eve is still a great game, and one can only wonder how great it could have been if it was long enough.

Final Fantasy Tactics

Like any other tactical game, Final Fantasy Tactics is also a long game that demands up to 96 hours to complete it. Just like most other Final Fantasy Titles, the game was quite successful. However, the game’s overall length might be a bit too much for most players out there. There is no doubt that the game is fun, but one has to be patient to finish it.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

No one can argue that Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is probably one of the best PlayStation games ever. It is so good that people still play it, and despite being around for so long, it still manages to be relevant. Since it is a combination of an RPG and Metroidvania, it isn’t very easy to play. However, despite its complexities, the game is just over eight hours long, which is a little too short to get enough time to entirely enjoy the game.

Persona 2: Eternal Punishment

Sequel to the Innocent Sin, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment is the third game in the series. The game was released two decades back in 2000 and was quite popular with the fans. It is an extension of the story of the second game of the series. Although sequels like Persona 4 Golden followed the game, there was no game in the series that could beat this one, especially in length. Persona 2: Eternal Punishment was good, but over 107 hours long, which can be demotivating.
