Is “Social Token” the next generation of tokens?

Creators and celebrities now have a new way to monetize their efforts and reward loyal fans.

Social tokens - or tokens backed by an individual's reputation, brand or community - are gaining traction and some believe they could be the next "token generation" in the community. electronic.

But what are they? Why are artists, musicians and influencers on social media rushing to "tokenize" their efforts to donate or sell them to fans?

Social tokens are a little different from the slew of DeFi liquid tokens that have emerged over the past few months. They are built on the principle of "ownership economy" with the premise that "a community in the future will be more valuable than today".

Creators can monetize their work in the form of non-fungible token (NFT) or social token; and supporters can give back something to show their love. Celebrities create their own tokens to donate them or sell them for extra revenue.

As Cooper Turley from Audius explains in Bankless:

Social tokens provide a means of not only bringing in financial returns from their intellectual products with their favorite ads, but also a encrypted decentralization based on positive contributions.

For example, artist Laura Driskill runs a popular Instagram channel and produces videos Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) to help relax and ease sleep. She has now created her own ERC-20 social token called TINGLE and her followers buy them in exchange for interactions or product purchases.

Grammy Award-winning artist RAC, aka André Allen Anjos has just launched a token for Zora - a platform for artists, creators and brands to create their own marketplace.

Tokens will be distributed to subscribers of various related platforms and used to unlock access to exclusive content.

A New York-based startup Roll goes one step further by offering "branded" digital tokens - built on top of Ethereum - to influencers and creators.

There are about 160 social tokens currently offered by Roll and the number is growing with everyone; From rappers, NBA stars to entrepreneurs, all are experimenting with this latest method of content monetization.
