An Academy Award winner for his role as the protagonist Freddie Mercury in Graham King’s Oscar sweeper “Bohemian Rhapsody” breaks his silence on his new role in the upcoming Daniel Craig’s final James Bond film “No Time to Die.”

The bad news is, as you might know already, the film has been delayed yet again. However, Malek has reflected on his preparation for the antagonist character and has revealed that being a nemesis of James Bond took a toll on his psychology.

Rami Malek, who has stepped into Christoph Waltz’s shoes as the new James Bond villain (Safin), recently spoke to GQ about his struggle with his latest on-screen character. In his previous interview, he had spoken about his character “Safin” and had described him as a scary adversary to the iconic hero. Now, in his latest interview with GQ, he has further elucidated on what it meant for him to take on the baton left by Christoph Waltz after his character got arrested in the climax of the previous James Bond film (Spectre).

He described the character as a calculative villain who wants to be in control of things. However, he felt that there was something about the character that was quite “unsettling.” He further explained that Safin gives one a feeling that he or she is not safe and prods the same to question everything he sees and then makes him question his interpretation after that.

Malek wanted to say that everything that Safin does or thinks is quite “unsettling,” and that is what makes him a super dangerous villain. He is not all about power and more often than not plays with his victim’s psyche, and when somebody like Bond is up against him, even he cannot jump to conclusions right away.

Malek added that he had to struggle initially with the persona of “Safin.” The character personifies true “evil” and considers himself with no moral obligation to achieve something.

The way Malek talked in the interview makes us feel that “Safin” will be the most ruthless character he has ever played. The actor acknowledged that Safin’s behaviors and actions give rise to an intuition that he must have had a dark past. The fact that Safin even tries to justify his “wrongdoings” was a “petrifying” thing for Malek to portray.

It is a needless thing to say that you will not get what he is talking about until you can see his performance. And that will not happen before November 2021. “No time to Die” is another addition to the list of tent poles suffering from a string of delays.

It was scheduled to release in November of this year, but it was pushed to April the 2nd, 2021, before ultimately making its way to the November slot next year. Daniel Craig will be seen in the Bond attire for the one final time on November 12th in the UK and on November the 20th in the US.

A statement was released after the film was pushed to November from April, and it addressed fans’ disappointment with the news. However, the team of “No time to Die” is now looking forward to next year.

Only time can tell whether Malek’s insinuation about his character can draw the audience to the theaters, or it would turn out to be an underwritten disappointment, which is quite consistent when we talk about Bond villains of recent past.

Christoph Waltz will reappear, though; the trailer revealed that his character “Ernst Stavro Blofeld” does have an important cameo in the film.
