Emotional roller

Let’s be honest. You’re not going to develop and grow if you keep doing the same thing day in and day out. Though that nice and warm comfort zone might feel all safe and cosy, it’s not going to benefit you in the long run.
To keep learning you need to push yourself to step up. You need to challenge your mind and step outside of your comfort zone. Yes it will feel scary and yes it will be daunting. But if you want to get ahead in life, taking the easy road isn’t the answer.
You’ll go through a range of feelings on this journey. From confidence to self doubt and panic, it can be quite the emotional roller coaster.
A Guide to Pushing Yourself Out of Your Comfort Zone
1. Take The Plunge
Ready to embark on the journey of leaving your comfort zone and heading on adventure down the road to career success? The first step is to put yourself forward – and seize – opportunities. Raise your hand, speak up and volunteer yourself to do new things at work. Whether it’s managing an entirely new project that’s different to something you’ve ever done before or presenting a strategic proposal to a big client, become the “yes girl”.
2. Plan of Action
You’ve grasped the opportunity and now it’s time to plan your course of action. Create your check-lists that help writing a paper for improving your skills, draft up a timeline, think through every possible scenario and all the logistics of how you’re going to achieve this activity. Now is the chance to take your time and plan wisely.
3. Embrace the Fear
The fear starts to creep in. “Why am I making myself do this?” “I’ve never done this before, I don’t know what to do!” “I’m stressed. I’m drawing. I can’t keep afloat.”
Take those feelings of stress and worry and channel them to push you further. Being nervous about doing a good job is ultimately a sign that you care. So instead of curling into a little ball, use that nervous energy to fuel you to do your best.
And don’t forget to breathe a long the way.
4. Seek Advice
You can’t be expected to know everything by clicking your fingers. If you need to, call on for advice from those around you. Show them your suggested plans and get them to provide their feedback. Having others look at your work is a great way to learn. It’s also an opportunity to pick someone else’s brains and get a new perspective on what you’re doing.
5. Back Yourself
Now it’s crunch time! The deadline has crept upon you. That big event you’ve been planning is tomorrow, or that proposal is due. You need to back yourself – you’ve got this. You’ve put in the hard work, so the results will take care of themselves.
6. Learn from your Mistakes
Well done! You’ve done it! Before you get forget your learnings, make a record of what happened and if there’s anything you can improve on for next time.
7. Repeat Steps 1-6
Yep. Now it’s time to do it all over again.
It’s important to not forget that you need to push yourself in order to grow. Rise to a challenge and you’ll feel yourself stepping up and developing more and more in your career.
