Why Apple Doesn't Allow Others to Use their NFC Chips

For some time now, since the introduction of Near Field Communication and integrating NFC chips to mobile devices, Apple seems to enjoy the benefits of the said technology by completely closing it to third party companies. The Cupertino company has been utilizing this technology through Apple Pay where its users pay for goods and services where it is accepted without taking their credit cards out of their pockets. Currently, the NFC chips embedded on Apple devices are for payment transactions only. But this too could be changed and expanded according to 9to5mac.

Apple may have been late to the NFC trend, but once they presented it to the public, they completely lock it down. Why did they prevent other companies to use their NFC chips?

The Benefits of Integrating NFC Chips to Mobile Devices

Let’s review, NFC chips in mobile devices have completely brought user experience to a whole new level thus making lives easy. NFC has changed the industry and by far, can be considered as the biggest breakthrough in the 20th century. Embedding NFC chips to mobile devices allows you to pay for items such as groceries, shoes, clothes, among others. You can make use of this technology by verifying genuine products from fake ones too. NFC can also be integrated into your marketing collaterals thereby reaching a wider audience in a presentable and unique way. Just like bigDAWGS’ own way of making use of this technology. They created NFC business cards, NFC cards and brochures, NFC stickers and labels, NFC key fobs and key chains, NFC magnets, and NFC inlays. All these NFC products will definitely help you out in terms of marketing your business.

With all these benefits, it’s pretty much understandable why Apple doesn’t allow other companies to make use of their NFC chips the same way they’re locking iOS to other firms. Reading post after post, Apple has been so vocal in terms of their ecosystem. Monopolizing the market is completely legal in other countries. Besides, Apple always patents their own system keeping competitors out of their game.

Reasons Why Apple Doesn’t Allow Other Companies to Use their NFC Chips

If you haven’t heard about this by now, Apple has been the subject of criticisms by other countries because of their decision to completely locked their NFC chips to other companies. One of these countries, like Germany, its German Parliamentary Committee voted to force Apple to open up its system to rival providers in the country. While Australia’s three biggest banks believe that Apple’s decision to lock down its NFC chips to other companies is considered to be an anti-competitive behavior.

Subject to extreme criticism, the tech giant believes that the legislation introduced could be against the systems’ user-friendliness, data privacy and protection, and security of financial information. Of course, by locking the system, it seems they gained more revenue as more iOS users are using Apple Pay for transactions.

What’s In Store for iOS Users

The tech giant has lately expanded its Apple Pay aiming for convenience to all its users without having to open several apps for payments. What seems to be a question of selfishness for some has led the tech giant to develop a more secure system for its users. Apple wants its users to use Apple Pay for faster, more secure, and more private transactions.
