Food is an important part of spending. But you can learn to save on food without making your diet poor. The editorial staff of TAM.BY shares life hacks that they use when they go to the store.

Plan your purchases

Create a weekly menu that includes full breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. See which foods you need to prepare the selected meals are already in your refrigerator. List the ones you want to purchase. This will avoid impulse purchases.

Analyze what you eat

Think about what products you can refuse. Perhaps you are a fan of chips, soda, or brownies. These foods can make a hole in your budget and are often harmful to eat. If it is difficult to give up your favorite goodies, try to buy them at least less often.

Some products should be replaced with cheaper alternatives. Yogurt from a less well-known brand may be tastier and healthier than the advertised product of another brand.

Compare prices

It is convenient to buy all products in one store. But it may turn out that bread is cheaper in a nearby bakery - do not be too lazy to walk there.

If you don't have time to shop, try shopping once a week. The “buy cottage cheese today, tomorrow - milk” approach often leads to unnecessary waste. Products from the category “I want something tasty” are sent to the basket.

Use discount cards

If you constantly go shopping in one Russian grocery store, get a discount card there. You may have to pay for it, but you can get a discount every time you go to this store to shop.

Do not get carried away with cooking

and semi-finished products

Ready-made meals that are sold in stores help out when there is a lack of time, but they are more expensive than those prepared on their own. Plus, homemade food tastes better - you know exactly what ingredients you put in the dish.

Vegetables

In summer, everything is simple - you can buy cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers and cook many delicious dishes with them. Fresh food is more expensive in winter. But you can choose healthy and cheap ones - give preference to white cabbage, beets, carrots.

Many vegetables and fruits can be frozen for the winter. Apples, pears, bell peppers, eggplants, cauliflower, broccoli. You can send berries and herbs to the freezer.

Pay attention to product weight

Sometimes you can see similar products on the shelves, but one will be slightly cheaper than the other. Don't rush to get a cheaper product. Sometimes manufacturers underestimate the weight or volume of a product without changing the packaging.

For example, milk or kefir can be poured into a 950-milliliter package instead of a liter. Before making a choice, check the weight or volume of the two foods.

Buy new products

You may be used to eating potatoes or pasta as a side dish. What about millet porridge - has it appeared on your table for a long time? And pearl barley? Cereals are a great and inexpensive side dish.

Try adding new foods to your diet from time to time. Take a closer look at different types of fish, replace pork with chicken.

Choose products carefully

Often we walk around the store, lost in our thoughts, and automatically send products to the basket. And only at home, it turns out that the cookies in the package are broken, and the frozen vegetables in an opaque bag are stuck together into one lump. Check the expiration date and do not be lazy to read the composition.

Explore the assortment on the lower shelves

Usually, more expensive goods are placed at eye level in supermarkets. And the cheapest one can be found on the lower racks.
