Handy guide for transfer process of .PK Domain Name ownership

Are you thinking about changing the Domain proprietorship? Here is a handy guide to the transfer process of .PK Domain Name ownership.

Transfer process of .PK Domain Name ownership from the current registrant to another registrant consists of following a systemic procedure.

This post comprises a brief introduction of .PK Domain and the transfer process of .PK Domain Name ownership.

A brief outline of Domain & .PK Domain:

The Domain is the backbone on which the process of coming online with a website on the internet is based, followed by Web Hosting Services. It is an easy title of the house (website) of an online business on the World Wide Web instead of memorizing the IP addresses. This Domain has three types:

  • Generic Top-Level Domain – gTLD
  • Sponsored Top-Level Domain - sTLD
  • Country Code Top Level Domain - ccTLD

That further gets divided into levels: Top Level Domain, Second Level Domain, Third Level Domain, etc.

.PK Domain is the Top Level Domain with the country code of Pakistan. The extensions of this Domain that are also Top Level Domains are .COM, .EDU, .NET, .ORG, .BIZ, .Fam, .WEB, .GOV, for instance, .PK.NET, or .COM.PK, etc.

All these Domains get registered via a process of PKNIC Card to the Domain Registrar, which is not in discussion in this post. However, the process of changing the .PK Domain Name ownership is talked through here.

Registrar & Registrant:

A Domain Registrar is a business, company, or organization that manages the .PK Domains Registration with the registries (maintain the records of ownership of domains that which name is associated and bought by which person, which in case of .PK Domain is the PKNIC). A registrant is a person that registers a domain(s) for his website, which is the legal owner of the Domain.

Transferring of .PK Domain Name Ownership:

If you want to transfer the Domain Name's legal ownership from one person to another, you should be following the process jotted down below.

For a Company Owner:

First of all, an authority letter should be written to the registrar. If the present registrant is a company or a person with official authority, he will write the letter on the letterhead containing the official seal. Next, the Country Identity Card (CNIC showing the nationality of Pakistan) will be required. Besides, the written letter will comprise the following information:

  • The account information of the present owner (transferor)
  • And the account information of the new owner (to whom it is being transferred)

However, in case if there is any problem with the name matching with the official document (like letterhead), then an affidavit attested by the oath commissioner, declaring the official authorization, needs to be furnished along with the above documents.

 For individuals:

If the person is not a director or official authority, in that case, he needs to submit a properly formatted affidavit comprising all the legal requirements and attestation from the oath commissioner and the CNIC.

However, for both cases, email verification from the current domain owner and the new owner is necessary to complete the process.
