Moving during the Corona virus Pandemic (COVID-19): What you need to know!

Moving is not everybody's cup of tea. It is tiring and complicated and hiring professional commercial movers sometimes doesn’t make it any better. Everything, from preparing and organizing, sorting the luggage accordingly, to eventually moving out all the household items demands meticulous planning.

The pandemic has made it even more hectic. Protocols that must be adhered to before getting a moving permit, and the uncertainties about the likelihood of getting infected while moving means it is even worse.

But make no mistake; moving is still possible and it's even less risky and more stress-free thanks to a few commercial movers. Portland or any other American city's local movers have had to put in place measures that adhere to the Covid-19 safety measures when packing and unpacking. Forget about masking up, sanitizing, and having to limit the number of packers doing the job.

Paperwork is a No-No!

It's OK to pack stuff up inside ordinary shipping boxes or those made from thicker cardboard. It is perfectly acceptable even to wrap up your valuables and fragile items, regardless of whether you are moving alone or you are hiring a commercial moving company.

However, there's one thing that's admirable about Portland local movers – the ban on paperwork. Every single detail is completed electronically and virtually to limit the likelihood of transferring the virus by contact. By the time the commercial movers arrive, everything is done, and it's straight into business.

Questions are acceptable

Before hiring commercial movers, it is OK to inquire what their Corona virus prevention measures are. You could ask about their new operations protocol, whether they have had a Covid-19 case amongst their personnel and whether they sanitize their moving vehicle after work.

Like every business today, Portland movers and pretty much all commercial and residential moving companies across America must show clear adherence to strict Corona virus safety measures. And you deserve to know how they are taking the necessary steps ahead of hiring them. Over the phone, ask as many questions on their Covid-19 prevention measures as possible.

Insist on Safety

For many commercial movers, Portland can be as risky as other coronavirus hotspots in the country. For you, therefore, you should focus on your safety from contracting the virus, knowing how likely the full-service movers could be unknowingly having it.

Essentially, let them know that you can only accommodate fewer packing and unpacking personnel, and taking their temperature readings as soon as they arrive is mandatory. A crew of three or less, who adequately know the various safety measures, will be willing to stay away from the rest of your family members, is acceptable. Of course, they must come with their face masks and sanitizers.

Lastly, let your neighbors know you are moving

Some neighborhoods are strict towards outsiders and may turn the moving company away. Others know a local charity organization that accepts donations or a buyer of second-hand items you could be willing to dispose of. It's always great to notify the neighbors.
