Why Every Nurse Should Know About BLS and CPR

Nursing isn’t just another profession that clocks in from 9-5; nurses have some of the most difficult tasks ahead of them considering that they play an important role in saving lives. It’s a given that nurses are skilled in various aspects in the field of health care. Although their education teaches them all of the basic requirements needed to succeed, today’s field of healthcare demands a lot more than just the bare necessities.

Some of the most common demands include BLS and CPR. It’s no exaggeration to say that these two practices have become mandatory in most hospitals. Let’s get a little more into the details:

CPR – Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

CPR is a life-saving procedure that is performed during emergency situations when the heart stops beating. There is a very high possibility that CPR could be a temporary relief for cardiac arrest, and there are many people still living today because they received CPR during their emergency.

CPR – The Importance

Performing CPR keeps the blood running by keeping the heart active, which makes having a certification mandatory in most hospitals. Considering that it’s a life-saving process that can be done by anyone, healthcare professionals like nurses, are generally subjected to getting certified as part of their minimum requirements.

One does not have to be a medical professional to perform CPR, and it does not require any medical instruments or equipment to perform — all it takes are your hands and some strength.

CPR Certification Online

Getting a CPR certification before getting the job is sure to boost your profile and resume. There are a few hospitals that offer these courses for free for their employees, but not all hospitals do that. Thanks to the Internet, there are a lot of online CPR courses that provide CPR training online, so you can take it at your own pace anywhere you’d like.

All of these courses cover all important aspects of CPR like Child CPR, Toddler CPR and Adult CPR. In most cases, importance is given to Infant CPR classes. These days, there’s no excuse for not being certified considering you can get your CPR certification online.

BLS – Basic Life Support

Basic Life Support is pretty much self-explanatory. This is the medical care that healthcare providers give to anyone who is experiencing cardiac arrest or any respiratory complications.

BLS – The Importance

The majority of hospitals expect their nurses to have a BLS certification. It’s also important that the BLS certificate is from an AHA accredited course. Having a BLS certificate in advance would be great, but if not, a BLS/CPR certification can be completed after obtaining the job.

BLS Certification

There are basically two types of BLS certification. One is for proper health care professionals, and the other is for the general public. Every individual has to go through different training to be BLS certified.

These days, getting a BLS certification is extremely easy. There are plenty of courses that offer a BLS certification online, so getting certified is not as difficult as it used to be.
