Since there are 15 support categories to go over, we know it can be difficult to understand. That’s why we’re providing a simplified overview that will go over all of NDIS support categories for 2020 – 2021.

Core Supports

There are three main types of NDIS support categories for 2020 – 2021, the first of which being core supports. These are services that aid participants in performing daily tasks and help them reach their goals.

The NDIS core support categories include:

  • Assistance with daily life: this category includes any household decision making assistance, such as shared living supervision, food services like Meals on Wheels and personal care.
  • Transport: this is for transportation aid, such as needing transport to work or school. It also includes access to community programs, both recreational and vocational.
  • Consumables: this section includes all consumable products or services that deal with aiding daily activities, such as interpreting, translating and home enteral nutrition.
  • Assistances with social and community participation: this section allows NDIS members to join groups that will aid them in reaching their development goals. These include art lessons and accessible camps.

Capital

Capital is the second kind of NDIS support categories for 2020 – 2021. These regard to any investments that NDIS participants must make to aid them in daily tasks.

This is the simplest type as there are only two NDIS capital support categories:

  • Assistive technology: the first support category aids in covering the cost of assistive technology that a member needs, such as hearing devices or a wheelchair.
  • Home modifications: the second NDIS support category helps cover some of the cost in making houses more accessible, such as needing to add guard rails or a stair climber to a home.

Capacity Building

The third type of NDIS support categories for 2020 – 2021 is capacity building. These include all programs that allow participants to build essential skills that allow them to live a life that is as independent as possible.

The capacity building NDIS support categories are the following:

  • Coordination of supports: this covers NDIS support coordination, which gives consultation and individual plans to NDIS participants.
  • Improved living arrangements: this deals with helping those using the NDIS gain living arrangements, whether that is a group home or individual accommodation support.
  • Increased social and community participation: this gives access to many community programs, like childcare, peer support and fitness groups.
  • Find a job: this provides participants with help getting a job and preparing them for the workforce.
  • Improved relationships: this helps members get better interpersonal skills so they can build relationships on a deeper level.
  • Improved health and wellbeing: this aids participants in bettering their overall health, be it through nutrition programs and meeting fitness needs.
  • Improved learning: this helps members become outstanding learners and includes school transition programs.
  • Improved life choices: helps participants make better life choices by teaching them organizational and financial skills.
